Frank Bruni: Elizabeth Warren screwed up. Thats clear. Her big confirmation of Native American blood offended some Native Americans, did nothing to muffle or muzzle Donald Trump and left many journalists me included questioning her tactical smarts.
But the media focus on her misjudgment, her character and whether she had the right stuff for the White House underscores the absurdity of our current politics, in terms of the advantage it confers on the president. We expect much of anyone stepping forward to challenge him. We expect absolutely nothing of him.

I can't respond to this, lest it become a visit from the SS. People act like this motherfucker's "success" gives them oxygen. What the living actual fuck? He's an asshole and needs to be discarded as such. Christ.

(988 posts)This is stupid. I have German blood in me. Should I not talk about my ancestry because I might insult them?
Ridiculous. The bottom line is she was lied about many times and punched back to set the record straight.
For our piece of trash president, its ok to punch back.. but for Senator Warren to punch back and set the record straight this is seen as bad?
I have lost respect for the Cherokee Nation. Some ancestor of Warrens, that was a full Cherokee, was disrespected by having a descendant shunned and turned away. Not a criminal descendant.. not a law breaking descendant but a United State Senator who is the descendant.
SHAME on Cherokee Nation.

(29,090 posts)I think the Cherokee nation completely misunderstood the context of Warren's disclose sure of her DNA. She isn't "running" on her NA heritage, she's simply setting the record straight...I'm amazed at how many appear to not "get" that.

(29,090 posts)However much that may oppose the apparent "consensus" being being pushed around the talk show circuit.
The idea that her hitting back against Trump was "off message" presumes that her decision was part of midterm election
strategy. Maybe she just got tired of being bullied.

I would encourage everyone to subscribe to the NY Times if they enjoy reading their reporting and can afford to do so.
It's $1 per week for unlimited access to everything on their website.

(29,090 posts)The whole idea that SHE made a mistake is based on the narrow, unconfirmed assumption of her pushback on Trump being a midterm election "tactic". Why is she not allowed the possibility of
a broader, more personal reason?
