I loved how FDR crushed everything Republican with wit and humor. He was a political genius. FDR gave America a heart for the first time in its history. We started to take care of each other. We used our tax money to take care of each other. Radical!
We stayed that way until Reagan. Since then we have been doing what we did before FDR. So sad, so dumb.

(3,666 posts)No way you can wave your magic political wand and recreate the democratic coalition of the Roosevelt era in 21st century America. completely different constellation of competing political forces. Way too much water under the bridge.

(3,666 posts)The racists, xenophobes, climate change deniers, globalists, fundamentalists get a say too. And I'm afraid it would in fact take a great catastrophe, on a par with World War II and the great Depression to unite a nation as divided and angry and hateful as ours is today. We're actually already facing a crisis even more consequential ... Climate Change ... and we cannot seem to get together and do something about it.
Just being realistic. Politics is not about wish-fulfillment , unfortunately.
