Members of Central American caravan "just passing through"

A group of refugees fleeing violence and oppression in their home countries have reached Mexico. After traveling hundreds of miles on foot, the next country on their route is the United States. Donald Trump has tried to make the approach of the so-called "caravan" an issue in the upcoming mid-term elections. When informed that the U.S. president was raising the alarm at their approach, a number of the group's members expressed astonishment. "We are just honest people of modest means looking for a safer and better life", said Javier Carrera who left his home in Guatamala with his wife and 2-year old child over one month ago. Carrera added, "We're just looking for a new home in a place that offers freedom and hope-Canada".

The group's members were just hoping that the U.S. would let them pass through on their way to a new start the same way that Mexico has. Luz Acosta who set off on her own from her village in rural Honduras in early September was shocked to hear that Trump and some of his followers were alarmed at the prospect of her entering the United States. " Do I look like a threat?", she asked.

Apparently the group is hoping that there will not be too much of a delay in crossing the U.S.-Mexico border. Oscar Alverez, who is from El Salvador, was anticipating being able to make the trek from Texas to Minnesota before winter weather made travel difficult. "I think they believe we want to stay in America but we want to just keep walking", he said, "we're fleeing from a hate-filled country controlled by an oppressive authoritarian regime, why would we want more of the same?" Alverez, who was carrying all of his worldly possessions in a backpack added "besides, their health care system is terrible and I have family in Toronto".

he's not gonna make it before it gets cold. It's already late October and is already cooling off in Toronto.

into just another banana republic. If these folks had access to cable news and were tuned into just what's going on here right now, they very well would want to just keep walking.
