Russian and U.S. officials announced this week that Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Nov. 11, the week after midterm elections and four months after the two world leaders met at the disastrous Helsinki summit.
The announcement, which came while national security adviser John Bolton was in Moscow for talks with Russian officials, marks a sharp reversal from the Trump administrations previous position on a bilateral meeting between the two men.
In July, Bolton announced that the next meeting between Trump and the Russian president would be postponed until 2019, citing the Russia investigation as his rationale for the delay. But apparently, Putin didnt want to wait that long.
As investigative journalist Julia Davis reported in late September, Russian state media the official mouthpiece for the Kremlin made a bold prediction about a future meeting between the leaders, saying there is a great probability that Trump and Putin would meet in Paris on Nov. 11, 2018.
And nearly a month to the day later, Bolton announced that Trump wants to meet Putin in Paris on Nov. 11, 2018.

(5,810 posts)In knots. On the one hand, I am hopeful that people will show up in droves to vote as a response to tRump and his lies, deceptions and insanity. Polling shows that a lot of people are awake and cognizant of what is happening. Even with all the misinformation and distraction tactics, people KNOW when they are being gaslighted, bamboozled and misled. I know on a gut level that people in this country are not all sheep who are followers of tRump.
On another level, I know that our voting process could be compromised and likely will be distorted and twisted to favor the Republicans. I know how it feels to be so confident in your candidate only to have your hopes dashed right before your eyes. The memory of election night 2016 is seared in my brain. The pain lingers long after the event.
So are we prepared for a repeat of 2016??? Will we sit in stunned silence, tears streaming down our faces in disbelief?? Or is there a plan ready to go? Will it make any difference?
The waiting to see how this turns out is killing me. I am usually an optimistic person who sees the positive. But this time I just dont know and it scares me.

(50,954 posts)Theres plenty he can do. There's plenty Vlad wants from him and he's stupid enough to give it
I see it as Helsinki II. Marching orders, basically. Right after the election, very telling. It becoming a pattern, election/inauguration/big Congressional vote - private briefing w/putinstaff or pootie himself. Significant event - private briefing.
I think we should loudly resist that beast being allowed to set foot on US soil, period. As if the WH hasn't been severely fouled already.

(59,504 posts)If so, it could have been mentioned because it was a time when both were to be at the same location at the same time. In the Obama years, many Putin/Obama meetings were on the "sidelines" of some larger event.
