Trump fears Florida wipeout

The president is mounting an 11th-hour effort to head off high-profile losses for governor and Senate in his adopted home state.

By ALEX ISENSTADT 10/26/2018 05:03 AM EDT Updated 10/26/2018 08:01 AM EDT

The White House is planning a political rescue mission in Florida, fearing a wipeout in a key swing state next month that could damage President Donald Trump’s reelection hopes.

Trump is expected to visit the state at least twice, according to two people familiar with the plans. Visits from several Cabinet members are likely, as well. Presidential text messages are being sent to Floridians who still haven’t cast their absentee ballots. And discussions are underway about blanketing the state with robocalls from Trump.

On Thursday, Vice President Mike Pence and White House counselor Kellyanne Conway were in the state in support of gubernatorial hopeful Ron DeSantis and Senate candidate Rick Scott, both of whom are close to Trump. Later in the day, the president raised money for Republican House candidate Ross Spano, who's facing an unexpectedly tough challenge in what's been a reliably red district.

Behind the scenes, Trump aides have been in contact with top Florida Republicans on a near daily basis, and people close to the president concede that they are worried.

1. Problem is, he's not terribly popular down there.

Last time I checked, his favorable/unfavorable were virtually identical.

He runs the risk of blanketing the state with himself, pissing off independents in the process and driving them to the polls to vote Democratic.

It may irritate people; I got calls from him in 2016 and it made me work harder. The deplorables will vote for him no matter what and Democrats aren't changing their minds. In addition, he can't reach some of his most ardent supporters who got hit by the hurricane. They still don't have power.

digging out of the devastation that Michael wrought is not going to win any votes. Want a vote? Show up with a chain saw and a trailor to remove the debris.

DeSantis has been made to look like a petulant, whiny, not so bright Harvard/Yale grad and Scott is knee deep in shit of his own making.

So Hair Furor wants to come down and shovel some more manure?

Boof them all.

One would think that with his wealth and fame, he would be rather content.

But, he is angry, fearful, paranoid, and revengeful.

Bye bye..Trump Tower. Then the people in Florida seem to be slowly turning against him. Look at Trump-lite is trying to distance himself a bit after his Trump loving commercial. Maybe he will find a home in Russia...

I'm confident on Gillum, he's had a steady lead throughout. Nelson-Scott, not so much, it's been razor-thin for awhile. No fault of Nelson, he's a great candidate, Scott is just a oily snake, conning people into thinking he's more moderate and charming than he actually is.

a Florida twofer here will be a body blow to the Trumpkins.
