Matthew's memorial today was beautiful, and DU was present.

My son selected and picked flowers from our garden to send:

We said hello to the family that we knew. Judy and Dennis were not there yet, so I set the flowers by the large bouquet to the left of the altar.

My husband's friend told us that he would let his aunt, uncle and cousins know who they were from. I told him that they were also from hundreds of others who wanted to be present, and sent their wishes to the family for their peace and happiness in this remembrance.

If you watched the service, you know how beautiful it was. Bishop Gene Robinson gave a beautiful homily, and talked about how transgender people are in the process of being erased from our country by those who believe that different is less than human and to VOTE.

There were excerpts from an oratorio called "Considering Matthew Shepard"

https://www.pbs.org/video/arts-context-considering-matthew-shepard/

Amd when you hear Agnus Dei by Samuel Barber in that space, you can't not cry.

You just need to see it yourself.

The suffering and persecution that suggests is dreadful, but hopefully this memorial is not just particularly meaningful for them but a light and hope for the future in this dark time.

I'm Episcopalian, and I'm so pleased Matthew's home church was a source of peace and happiness. I'm glad he's buried at the cathedral.

BTW, our diocese ordained a trans-woman to the priesthood last December, and I was one of her presenters.
