(3,344 posts)So I got to watch the whole thing unfold live. It was awesome.
The press noticed the van, then both zoomed into the van and got eyewitness accounts.
At first the news was that there were stickers on the van. So I HOPED it wasn't liberal or Democratic.
Then BAM! It not only had crazy right wing shit, but TONS of it all over the van.
I should have known.

(269,033 posts)She drove in the van. What I find shocking is that she allowed him to deliver food in that cesspit of hatred.

(129,068 posts)to fire someone based on their political beliefs and also said that he was always on time, came to work impeccably dressed, and did his due diligence with the deliveries.
Seems she probably grew up in a family business just based on her no-nonsense managerial outlook.

(58,785 posts)If this is true, I respect and admire her attitude, especially in these days which invite so many to be the worst versions of their political selves.
BumRushDaShow
(129,068 posts)as she repeated quite a few times that she completely disagreed with his views and whenever he would start trying to discuss them, she would find something for him to deliver.
She said that she was always taught to "turn the other cheek" and she seemed adamant that she would never judge him despite the fact that he continually told her about her ending up on some island burning along with others - like blacks and lesbians like herself (including Rachel Maddow), etc.

(58,785 posts)Malaise points out a concern. I don't know what insurance company searches on employees encompass these days, but anyone driving for her would have to be named to be covered, so the very least would have been a basic driver record search.
He'd lived there for some years without causing alarm, though. Apparently his van was pretty well known in their town. She said her customers liked him. and she obviously wasn't significantly concerned about negative fallout from association.
I saw a clip of her on Fox and liked her unadorned, Christine Blasey Ford-type recollections. The Fox blonde's attempts to sensationalize her interview fell flat on the facts. That "turn the other cheek" and "never judge him" are obviously from a religious orientation, but plenty of people find reason to be mean in their religion instead. Her willingness to accept a dysfunctional man as a person with all his faults and give him a job say a lot about her.
BumRushDaShow
(129,068 posts)assuming she knows there are probably other crazies like him around there, is that perhaps she is "publicly" sending a message to those others to not boycott and/or deface her business because she kept her relationship with him strictly on a "business/employer/employee" level. I haven't looked up whether anyone went on a Yelp (or other review site) to trash or leave bad reviews of her business yet, but it seems she made an "economic" decision - literally repeating over and over her orientation (as a nod to the left) but also repeating over and over that his "politics" were irrelevant while doing the bare minimum to praise him in terms of his appearance and work habits (as a nod to the right).
Regarding the van - in the interview I saw, she said she did put her foot down on him parking it anywhere near the restaurant and only let him pretty much work nights. The thing about delivering pizza at night is that it is dark and the person who ordered it would probably not be paying that much attention to how the driver got there - they just want their food and they'll give him the money, get their order and close the door.

(58,785 posts)occurs with associating with society's problem people. Turned out it's her 15 minutes complete with national media appearances because she was acquainted with him, instead of just coming in and finding some equipment missing or having to call the police on some creepy friend who followed him there. He only worked there for 8 months and quit back in January.
That last about parking the van is entirely believable for sure. I'd wondered about that. I googled her business while looking for where he might have lived (we occasionally camp along rivers and marshes in south Florida for fishing, etc., and places where people like that hang are avoided), and it clearly caters to the middle classes.

(17,984 posts)I missed all 50,000 hours of the white Bronco chase and had to watch it on rerun over the next month...in Ireland...on a little island off the west coast with a population of 300.
And a warning for the future...Stay Put With the TV On!

(17,443 posts)We were pretending to watch a game at a quiet bar. We were really just shooting the breeze and drinking beer. The TV broke away from the game with a breaking news banner about a high speed chase. We saw people run up to the Bronco and high five him while the breathless announcer speculated wildly. The chyron still said high speed chase. We ordered more beer and were highly amused by the coverage.
In hindsight, I think the last quarter century would have gone OK if I'd somehow missed it.

These "soldiers" for TrumPutin are a new thing in politics in this country. Not so new for the world -- see WWII.

(269,033 posts)How was the MAGAbomber not charged with terrorism?
Hermit-The-Prog
(33,349 posts)Ah, either not dark enough or didn't have the right religion for terrorism. Expect news reports soon that expound on the MAGAbomber's economic anxiety. (Of course, Mnuchin took his house while GOPer policies of decades took his wages, but the economic anxiety is the fault of Democrats).

(5,810 posts)One cant help but notice he is a master at saying lets have you and him fight. I heard him once say, Id like to knock the crap out of him. But never once have I seen him even come close to acting on his words. No. Hed rather pay someone else to do the dirty work. (Ill pay your legal fees if you knock the crap out of him. ). It remains to be seen if he would honor that promise to pay.
I would not be surprised to learn he paid his goons to act as enforcers at his rallies. We know he has paid attendees, so why not have a goon squad to gin up the violence and entertainment?? This puts his rallies somewhere in the pro wrestling category and judging by who attends them, it would be right up their alley. Twofer. Come to see their hero and get a rasslin match for free. All part of the show.
