American Muslims have raised more than $120,000 since Saturday for the families of those killed and injured in the Pittsburgh synagogue shooting, in a demonstration of interfaith solidarity.

CelebrateMercy and MPowerChange, non-profit Muslim organizations, launched an online drive to raise funds for the synagogue within hours of the shooting, in which 11 people were killed and six were injured. It reached its target of $25,000 in six hours.

“We wish to respond to evil with good, as our Islamic faith teaches us, and send a powerful message of compassion to the Jewish community – our Abrahamic cousins,” said Tarek El-Messidi, director of CelebrateMercy.

“Through this campaign, we hope to send a united message from the Jewish and Muslim communities that there is no place for this type of hate and violence in America or anywhere worldwide. ”

Not in the White House, not in the bank vaults of billionaires, and definitely not in the churches of people more concerned with money and power than with spirituality and mystical experience.

We have had them in our home, we have visited theirs. Last year we had two families here for our "misfits Christmas" for people who cannot go home for the holiday. They wanted to learn about how we celebrate the holiday. We had a great time! They brought food, we had food it was an international experience. We also had a faculty member and his family from India.

We love our friends and their children are so sweet, no different from any other American, and these faculty are either on a legal status or have become citizens.

The sad thing is, they all have horror stories to tell about ignorant Americans, both students and adults. They would make all of you cry.

I would rather have a Muslim family in my home anytime over an evangelical Christian family.

I am not the least bit surprised that they have given of themselves to people who have been targeted because of their religion in America. It happens to them daily.
