Beautiful creations lifted me today - look - and see if it helps you as well

A friend, a quilter (and DU person) alerted me to the exhibition of Southern Quilts at the local Y.
I found such beauty that while I picked my jaw off the floor numerous times I forgot all about the upcoming terrifyingly hopeful day of Tuesday.

If you don’t like the artistry here - by chance - at least go down to the last one.

She made beautiful quilts. She used a magnifying glass and sat under a very bright light. She also had slender, tiny, nimble fingers that flew over the cloth. And she had a ton of patience.

there are companies that will do it for you. Most of the quilting, as far as I can tell by looking at these, are machine done. Most quilters use a long arm quilter. They are about 12 feet long and the sewing machine moves. They even make computerized quilters you can program and walk away.

Here are the frames: https://handiquilter.me/product-category/frames/

Here is a machine: https://handiquilter.me/product/hq-avante-quilt-machine/ You hold the machine by those black hook like things to move it over the quilt. It's pretty cool.

I went thinking I'll go look and find my friend's piece. Yesterday. After an hour or so picking that jaw off the floor as I said before, I realized I had not understood what was offered. So I went back today to spend more time and schlepp the camera - realizing DU needed a pick us up before Tuesday.

I do quilt but nowhere near that level. The women who do this are artists. From looking at the pictures I believe they are all machine quilted. It is an art to do this with a machine.

I am not a quilter but usually go to the big SoCal show in Jan to pick up fabric or trims for my own projects. Always have to take a stroll through the quilt exhibition section and am always blown away. I just can't imagine the detail and patience it takes to make one of these works of art. Really creative and inspiring ideas. Thanks for posting!

Not anywhere near that class. I hand make mostly crib quilts for family and friends having babies, but occasionally make a larger quilt. My favorite of the ones you showed is the diamonds with borders, and the Vote quilt.

I love sewing by hand. It makes my cares melt away, and I have something beautiful at the end. I have made many quilts since November, 2016.

The first one looks like trapunto on the top (the green). Also, it has to have been dyed to get the gradient, either before or after doing the needle art.

It takes hours and hours to choose the fabrics for this type of project, not to mention doing the design work.

Also on the first one, I see begonia leaves used twice, on the first and also in the second row.

I am awestruck with the time and talent it took to make.

My Mother Quilted for many years, Each of her Quilts told stories beyond the actual making of the quilt. She intentionally would leave small "mistakes" in her quilts..it became quite a game to find them.

My oldest sister is a quilter. She makes gorgeous quilts. She recently gave her youngest son a detailed one with an elephant for his wedding present. His bride received one with flowers. She has had her own business for decades. Every sibling, niece and nephew has one of her works of art.

I have done all sorts of needlework over the years - knit, crochet, Tunisian/Afghan crochet, needlepoint, petit point, cross-stitch, latch hook, embroidery, and even briefly dabbled in lacework, but have never done quilting nor weaving.

Admire anyone who is willing to take the time to focus on design (definitely required for this) and then execute it!

Didn't realize there were machines that do it though...lol So used to seeing pics of "quilting clubs" with folks hand-quilting sections with an embroidery hoop. Thank you for posting and love that last one as a clarion call for what we need to do if we haven't already!!!!
