Democrats Need To Own Cybersecurity The Way Conservatives Own Guns

Here's what the media isn't telling you - the biggest threat isn't MS13, or the caravan, or gay people, or George Soros, or whatever boogeyman conservatives happen to come up with this week. The biggest threat to your well being is those screens you stare at for 16 hours a day. It's hacking and misinformation that got Trump elected, got Brexit to happen, and got dictators elected throughout the world like Erdogan and Duterte and Bolsonaro. You think Bolsonaro is going to be the answer to Brazil's problems? Hell no. He'll make things worse, just as Trump did.

Bolsonaro got elected the same way Trump did - through a campaign of fear, misinformation, and constant 24/7 lying - and it was all done on social media. They didn't need an army to knock off Brazil, just people who spend all day, everyday on Twitter and Facebook. And it all came from one place - that troll army in Moscow spearheaded by Vladimir Putin. What Putin did to these countries is an act of war, and so far there's been no country who's been man enough to stand up to the Moscow Madman. Judi Dench had a great line in the James Bond flick Quantum Of Solace where she said "How can this organization be everywhere at once and we know nothing about them?" It's because they operate in the shadows, through wires. They are not physical beings, they are cyber entities. We know nothing about them because we can't trace them!

Here's where the Dems can come in. We need to own this issue. We need to own it the same way that conservatives own the second amendment and that they own organized religion. An act of cyber war is an act of war. Think MS-13 is going to infiltrate your home and steal your money? Think again! It'll be an untraceable, reroutable IP address from St. Petersberg! After the 2016 election, cybersecurity needs to be a priority number one issue.

Trump can never say that collusion never happened because it did, and it's all around you. And it doesn't take Robert Mueller to figure that one out. It happened through a constant, never ending stream of anti-liberal and anti-progressive propaganda blasted 24/7 by people who never sleep. And it is happening all around you, it doesn't take much to link any conservative senator or representative to the collusion machine right now. Less degrees than Kevin Bacon.

It's also not just elections, our social media, and bank accounts - everything is at stake. From our military to air traffic control to the very micro fiber of our economy, everything must be secure. We were warned about the possibilities of election hacking 15 years ago, and we can still prepare for it in the future.

And the thing is we're one of the largest and most powerful nations in the world. If we can stop Putin and his troll army here, we can stop them anywhere. Instead of building a wall around Mexico and making them pay for it, we should be building a cyberwall around the Kremlin, and making Putin pay for it! How else is he going to operate that smart bomb without the thing that makes it smart?

So we need to get behind this issue, any way and any how. And the Democrats can own this issue for 2020, let's Make America Hack-proof Again! Build a cyberwall around America and then let's take it to Moscow, and make Putin pay for it. Let's fight fire with fire.

The Internet of Things. We need cybersecurity to protect networks that run everything from the power grid to air traffic control.

Don't mess with Alexa.

Get off Facebook today, if you haven't already.

Keep your cell phone in a faraday bag when you don't want to be tracked.

Get a "USB Condom" when you are charging at an airport or other public place.

And if you have a baby monitor PLEASE change the password from the default.

Young voters logically care about that.

There wasn't one question during the 2016 debates regarding climate change. Disgraceful. Hillary did devote about 5 minutes total, and that was well done, but the moderators really screwed up and played into Trump's hands by ignoring the issue.

I thought Hillary should have devoted her entire closing statement to climate change in at least one debate. I don't believe there were closing statements in debate one. That would have been an ideal opportunity. Instead Lester Holt at finish asked some stupid question about whether or not the candidates would accept the results of the election. I was going nuts. That is what a moderator should never do...emphasize some short term issue above a major variable with centuries worth of consequence.
