They started the day with nothing and ended up with control of the House of Representatives. It was no small accomplishment. They had to win 23 seats to take power in the House. They won those and more.
It's a good day for Democrats and it is a good day for America.

(15,286 posts)A few populist and socialist ideas won in red states, too, like expanding medicaid and raising the minimum wage.
Lots of new women elected to the House, too.
I think is just the beginning of a liberal and progressive era. When you look back at Watergate and the times, it was similar, a time of wrenching change with Americans who wanted to keep that at bay by electing and re-electing Nixon.

(14,565 posts)Starting with very soon because he gets to pick 3 Florida Supreme Court judges in January.
That is going to shift that court sharply. Remember, Rick Scott tried to pretend he could do it as outgoing governor but the Florida Supreme Court shot it down and said it is the responsibility of the new governor. Now the new court will probably say fine if a Republican governor loses and replaced by a Democrat.
It is not a good night for Floridians. I can't share in this joy
