Voter turnout was around 7.8 Million, only about 1 Million less than 2016 and almost DOUBLE the turnout in 2014.
NINE TERM GOP congressman John Culberson was defeated by Lizzie Fletcher by 4%!
There is no turning back. Texas is in play for 2020.

AJT
(5,240 posts)running against a really good dem. I don't see how that can be construed as Texas being in play.

You couldn't have two more different candidates running against each other. I'm so disappointed

(66 posts)that Texas is in play. It's fools gold. Beto was an absolutely exceptional candidate against the most disliked candidate running for re-election. There will never be another election where we have such a good candidate against such a terrible candidate. The Cruz campaign didnt even have a ground game for this election, nor did they even have things like yard signs until very late in the election. And they still won. Texas is still a generation away from being a viable presidential battleground state, and that is only if we build off the Beto campaign and have an actual functioning democratic party in Texas. We had zero infrastructure, no local party offices to base ourselves out of. We relied on pop offices that didnt appear in our part of the state until October. Texas looks winnable because of the star power of the candidate vs the most hated politician in the Senate, not because it is actually a close state. We have sooooo much work we need to do at the local level for the 10 years to rebuild the party. That being said, fuck do I want Beto to run in 2020!

We're still waiting for the 4th Court of Appeals. (32 counties)
That's awesome!! These local gains is where we need to turn our attention to in Texas.
