Trying to see a Silver Lining on the Senate ass-whupping ...

Last edited Wed Nov 7, 2018, 12:08 PM - Edit history (1)

This is all I got:

At least there'll be no more endless weeks of the media blathering about the opinions of Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski ... they're now mostly irrelevant.

So there's that.

On edit: FINE, it's not an ass-whupping ... it's just a 'regular loss, given our odds, and the map' ... but going from 2 seats behind to possibly 4 or 5 ... is ... IMHO ... a pretty dramatic set-back. Okay?

If the Dems had won both the House and the Senate, Congress would be Trump's and the GOP's whipping boy for the 2020 election. I know that's not much - but it's something. And in two years we get to take a shot at the next 1/3 of the Senate (this wasn't a good year; too many GOPers were entrenched).

4. Well, in 2020, the R's will be in the situation as Dems were this year, defending lots of seats:

In the 2020 election, all 33 Class 2 Senate seats are up for election; there are currently 20 Republicans and 11 Democrats whose seats will be up for election, and two seats to be determined in the 2018 elections.

That’s working on the assumption that we win back the White House in 2020 (because, if not, a Senate tie won’t help us much). Being a presidential election year, strange things can happen with coattails. Assuming we can field a strong nominee, anything is possible.

60 votes...the next map is better. Heller lost and I am thrilled about that.

12. In Texas, a lot of Democrats won riding Beto's coattails. Races that Democrats do not win.

That happened thru out. We may not have gotten the really unlikely win, but we picked up a lot with Democrats going out to vote.
