Our government is a house of cards

That assumes, actually requires, that the president follow the general rules and guidelines of the office.

Technically, with enough support from key government officials, there is nothing, no law and no branch of government, to stop them from doing whatever they want.

It was an actual concern of some of the Founding Fathers. That the Constitution only holds as long as the people choose honorable and moral people to the highest office. If not, there is little, with the right support, to stop a president from being a overt dictator.

Trump has all the key support he needs from a host of sycophants and wannabes.

We are screwed unless we, as citizens, can muster a massive response that overwhelms the system.

Given that most people care more about what happens on “The Bachelor” than in DC, I see that as unlikely.

that Congress would be adversarial with the executive branch.

THAT is where the system is failing -- party loyalty amongst those in Congress towards the President is stronger than their loyalty to their own branch of government.
