as so many seem to think, then why do you suppose he hasn't released them already? The election is over. Trump is getting rid of Sessions and probably replacing him with someone who will be willing to fire Mueller. So shouldn't Mueller get out ahead of any such thing?

(18,125 posts)Maybe they need some finishing touches.
Maybe they are still investigating and finding more and more slime the deeper they dig.
Maybe they didn't want to release anything in the 2 months leading up to the election (per unwritten DOJ protocol).

(9,874 posts)A good prosecutor will never seek an indictment before he has all the proof he needs to convict. You don't indict people and then look for the proof later. So he will continue to gather evidence until he thinks he has a ironclad case and then present the case to a Grand Jury.
With all the flipping done recently by people like Manafort and Cohen, I think he continued to gather evidence which he will use when he seeks indictments but he may not be completely done. We see he continues to meet with these people, so maybe he wants to dot all his i's and cross all his t's before seeking indictment.
Presenting a case to a grand jury before having all the evidence to beat any potential firing is not a good strategy if it leaves him with a weak case to prosecute.
