is he a friend here? Asking this question because it appears Michael Moore and Bernie Sanders are not well liked here. Just curious.
Personally, I support anyone that supports Democratic values. May not like everything they say but do support them on general principles.

(58,785 posts)"supporting" Democratic values.
Some of those who love what they consider "democratic values" nevertheless despise Democrats and use talk of values as delivery vehicles for attacks on Democrats. Some feel that's a strange way of "supporting" since Democrats are the largest bloc by far of those who believe in and fight for democratic values.
For an example of "support" that people disagree on, how about Moore's recent claim that Obama told parents in Flint that it was okay to give their children poisoned water?
Maybe you wondered why he did that? I did not.
Moore's been doing that kind of thing constantly for years, just usually far less blatantly. I saw him for about a half minute on O'Donnell on election night and he was already smearing Democrats right out of the gate, first sentence or two. His "poison water" thing must just have been giving in to temptation, because it displayed his dishonesty and hostility against mainstream Democrats so baldly that it's hard to imagine anyone could miss it.
And that's the reason, btw, all these names are mentioned together. They all share the same general idea of what "support" for values is.

(102,405 posts)Bernie and Michael Moore are progressives with whom we sometimes disagree, but progressives nonetheless. Maher is a Dem-leaning libertarian, with whom we can frequently find common ground-- and he is a comedian first and foremost.

(13,305 posts)There are obviously vocal voices who don't like, 1, 2 or all 3 of them but they are by no means the majority. Most on here support anyone who supports progressive values. Many of us feel that way and also would prefer they all always support the Democratic party but are resigned to the fact that they may not and do not think that makes them bad people or enemies. And some will support anything, as long as it has a D after it's name no matter how bad they might otherwise be and hate anything that does not.
Personally I'm in the middle group.

(58,726 posts)started out by assuming he was a Democrat. He never was. He is a comedian first and a libertarian second.
Thing is, he's not a Big "L" libertarian like the Paul Ryans of the world. He's a libertarian that has some common sense left. He'll never agree with progressives 100%, but he definitely makes fun of people who deserve it most of the time. He also seems to understand that there are things that need to get done and the government is the only organization that can do them.
One confusing thing for people who watch his show is that his audience tends to be much more liberal and progressive than he is. They seem to groan at something he says at least once every show.

(92,433 posts)Bernie Sanders.
MM and Bill Maher are essentially entertainers, and political satirists.
Bernie Sanders is an ELECTED Senator, who aligns with the Democratic party in the Senate. While there may disagreements among some with Senator Sanders, you are going to find that with any elected representative. In the end Senator Sanders is accountable to his constituents, and obviously his constituents agree mostly with his views because he keeps getting re-elected.
MM and Bill Maher are not accountable to anyone. I think it would be quite interesting if MM and or Bill Maher ran for public office. I am skeptical that they would get much support.

(24,445 posts)are a mixed bag. I enjoy/support some of what they say, think they're out of line on some things, etc. Bill Maher is occasionally not very "woke" on some issues, acts privileged sometime. Moore is good and I appreciate his activism, but occasionally he's too much of a "Debbie Downer" and harsh on the Democratic Party for me. Most of what Bernie says is fine but occasionally I feel like he acts like too much of a "know-it-all" and don't like him lecturing a political party that he is not personally part of. All of them are mostly on the right side of things- morally and politically, however.

(24,397 posts)Nancy Pelosi has been an extremely effective leader. Success in politics is as much as knowing what not to do as it is what to do. She has been able to keep the caucus together through thick and thin.
Im all for new blood in leadership positions, but Im not for freshmen in the top positions. Its great that we have so many new members coming in. They now have a chance to show their mettle and to prove that they deserve leadership roles in the House. In the meanwhile, they have the privilege of learning how it works from the best in the business.

(11,500 posts)I dont always agree on everything they say but overall I think they help. We are a big tent and people need to remember that. Parts of our country are very liberal, parts very conservative.
Some states have a different cultural experience.
Michael and Bill have learned hard lessons and both last few elections say same thing dont vote third party vote dem.
Bernie is great because he has energized the youth vote and he leans way left which brings a balance to so many going further right.
There is a major divide in this country between big cities and rural or smaller towns. I have lived in both and both think the other is making laws against them. In a way they are right because things that help a big city dont necessarily someone in the country.
But cities need farming and little towns need the money, museums, stores from the city.
We just all have to stop and realize we need each other. Thats why in a crisis you dont see red or blue. Our party needs to stop redoing 2016 and actively support all parts of the whole. Just like you need all major organs in your body, we need all types of dems.

Yes, there are people here who don't like him. He is not afraid to criticize Dems--individually or the party--and that doesn't sit well with some people. Personally, I enjoy his show--most of the time--and I've even been to two of his appearances when he came to Durham, NC. Does that mean I agree with everything he says? No. So what? He's a comedian. But he's definitely a friend to the Democratic party.
