Marcia Fudge: Pelosi 'lost seats' over the past eight years

BY CHRIS MILLS RODRIGO - 11/16/18 08:53 AM EST

Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-Ohio) on Thursday said that one of the reasons that House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) could face challenges to her bid for the Speaker's gavel is because of "lost seats" over the last eight years.

"She didn't do this by herself," Fudge explained, discussing the Democrats taking back control of the House in last week's midterm elections. "She also was the person who over the last eight years, lost seats. It's one thing to give people credit for winning if you also make them responsible for losing."

A group of anti-Pelosi Democrats have ramped up efforts to recruit Fudge to run against Pelosi. Fudge herself has expressed some interest in challenging Pelosi for Speaker.

"People are asking me to do it, and I am thinking about it," she told Cleveland.com Wednesday.

If she has a case for being the Speaker, now is the time for her to make it.

Let's hear her and her supporters explain how she'd be a better choice than Pelosi and a better choice for our 2020 odds.

4. Black caucus members back Pelosi for speaker over their former chair

Nov 2018
Lawmakers in the Congressional Black Caucus back Nancy Pelosi for speaker over one of their own members, Rep. Marcia Fudge — a bad sign for the former CBC chair who’s considering a challenge to the California Democrat.

The CBC has been spoiling to elevate a group member into one of the top two positions in Democratic leadership for years, with current CBC Chairman Cedric Richmond writing as recently as two weeks ago that having a black speaker or majority leader was a top priority.

But in interviews with eight CBC members about Fudge's possible bid for speaker, all but two members said they would back Pelosi over Fudge. Other CBC members on Thursday tweeted or put out statements of support for Pelosi, including Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), the most powerful African-American in the House and a close friend and ally of Fudge.

"She knows that, she knows that, she knows I'm for Pelosi," Clyburn said of Fudge in a brief interview in the Capitol.

If she "didn't do this (win back the House in record fashion) by herself", then she didn't lose all those seats by herself, either. Just sayin'. SMGDH.

This is second only to claiming the POTUS has to win them all.

9. well to be fair, after a party loses the house.. the leader gets the blame.

but given the story behind the loss, it's a bit strange to rub it in Pelosi's face. The ACA was a tremendous achievement. And the version she passed had the public option attached.

... I think she's should be completely disqualified from having such an important role, with such high visibility, and just TWO heartbeats away from the presidency.
