they're choking toddlers with tear gas

The AP reported that the breeze carried the tear gas from border agents "hundreds of yards," causing parents to run away with their "choking toddlers."

I was toying with MAGA "Make America Gas Again" but cannot recall when America did such a thing before ...

7. No. There are several stories.

One says a group of a few hundred people, mostly young men, pushed through Mexican security and tried to force their way through the fence or somehow over the border.

The other is that tear gas was fired and defenseless women and children were seen running, toddlers being carried.

Another says that the border crossing was shut down in the face of the "caravan", meaning that all those seeking asylum weren't able to submit applications at the time, the reader inferring that it was because the US was simply mean spirited.

Another is that Mexico shut down the border crossing, preventing vehicles from the US side from entering Mexico, the reader inferring that this was some sort of protest against the US actions.

For something closer to the truth, you unite the stories because they're the same event being reported piecemeal. They're all partial truths, the part chosen to present a subjectively chosen "objective" point of view.

The "mostly young men" included some mothers and kids. The group, men and women, had forced their way through the Mexican security and were trying to force their way across the border. The border crossing at San Ysidro was shut down to secure the border and prevent this forced crossing; it was shut down by the Mexican government because the Mexican government controls access across that portion of the border. Those trying to force their way across the border were teargassed.

Now go back and look at each of the four stories and think about how the take-away message was manipulated, how the reporter effectively manipulated the reader by omitting parts of the story while the reader inferred s/he knew the whole story--in other words, playing off the reader's ignorance and letting emotions do the rest of the manipulation. *That* is the core of disinformation techniques.

One version I've seen omits altogether the fact that there were people storming the border fence, which would seem to be the reason the U.S. border guards fired tear gas.

I don't appreciate being manipulated by incomplete reporting from the left any more than I appreciate it from the right.

i can only assume, since rethugs are so insistent they do it legally, that they were actually given a chance to do so at the border, RIGHT?
