The Hill @thehill 10m10 minutes agoOcasio-Cortez fires back at Lindsey Graham: Stop pretending authoritarianism is a thing of the past http://hill.cm/1VySmvC
Ocasio-Cortez was responding to a tweet from Graham telling her to take a tour of the Holocaust Museum after she compared Central American migrants to Jewish families fleeing Nazi Germany.
This administration has jailed children and violated human rights. Perhaps we should stop pretending that authoritarianism + violence is a historical event instead of a growing force," she tweeted.

I recommend she take a tour of the Holocaust Museum in DC, Graham tweeted. Might help her better understand the differences between the Holocaust and the caravan in Tijuana.
His comment was in response to a Sunday tweet in which the incoming lawmaker wrote: Asking to be considered a refugee & applying for status isnt a crime."
"It wasnt for Jewish families fleeing Germany," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted. It wasnt for targeted families fleeing Rwanda. It wasnt for communities fleeing war-torn Syria. And it isnt for those fleeing violence in Central America."
She suggested he visit the Smithsonian Museum of African-American History and Culture.

(81,269 posts)A few more years. Get yer feet wet, do some governing, survive a few serious battles, put some points on the board, build a good base of allies and voters, and you'll be set to make a run at the biggest brass ring there is, Madame Representative-elect. Take care and watch your back, though. The more successful you are and the bigger a splash you make, the more enemies you'll have.

(37,648 posts)She toured with him. Didn't he campaign for her? She calls herself a Socialist Democrat, much like Bernie refers to himself as a Socialist. So she is proudly aligned with Bernie. Nothing wrong with that, if she feels a kinship with him and his views. But not fair, and not true, to say that others who associate them are doing that because of an agenda on their part.

(37,648 posts)The post infers that some people referenced in the OP are those who associate OAC with Bernie Sanders, for some unknown reason. My point is that OAC herself has associated herself with Bernie Sanders, so everyone would associate her with Bernie Sanders. Literally everyone. Because OAC has presented herself that way.
I was not responding to any other post.

The gaslighting begins.
Twitter fights and all manner of gaslighting will continue with all the women of Congress. Division, discouragement, opinion derision as tools of women's oppression in Congress continue.
Citizens for gender equality need to monitor the ongoing male attempts to dismiss, mock, gaslight female leaders as male leaders publicly weaponize their gender war toolbox for shutting women up. Anywhere.
The Graham-Ocasio Cortez exchange is not about the content.
It's about who runs the policy narrative out of Washington.
Lindsey Graham and his sexist club can go fuck themselves.

(58,785 posts)of her colleagues, including getting a chance to discuss with the leadership what she and they will be doing this term. A new respect. So far. Too soon to assume it's a reset, but the tone of her messages has shifted and suggests she now understands and values the enormous advantages of working for change from the center of power -- with a lot of people who share her goals.
And I love this valuable call-out warning of the dangerous rise of right-wing authoritarianism to some who may never have heard of it but have now because they're listening to her.
I am still concerned about Saikat Chakrabarti, her former campaign chair and incoming chief of staff. Unlike before, his last week or so of tweets contains no direct contradictions to what she is saying, so it may be that she's been able to rein him in somewhat. The current tweet focus is mostly on mobilizing to fight climate change (great!). However tamped down, though, an almost constant dishonest and contemptuous hostility toward her Democratic colleagues still permeates his Twitter feed. The large majority occupy the broad liberal ground between his radical leftism and the conservative-influenced centrists he dishonestly portrays them all as.
I just hope she cuts him loose before he causes her serious trouble. Fwiw, I found no new Twitter messages suggesting the men of Justice Democrats regard her position as a member of congress as a "chip" they can sacrifice to their radical crusade if needed. Guessing she may not have liked that.

(36,854 posts)May I suggest, @LindseyGrahamSC, that you take a tour of the Holocaust Museum?
And thank god @Ocasio2018 is an elected official who actually applies our history to identify our worst impulses instead of using it to pander to them.
Oh, and how could I forget: the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum literally has a permanent exhibit on Rwanda, Bosnia, and Darfur and has spoken out against the atrocities and lack of support for those fleeing Syria, you know the refugees @LindseyGrahamSC continues to ignore?
One more thing, @LindseyGrahamSC... if you really want to explore the truly dark side of the U.S. enabling and/or blatantly ignoring the Holocaust, explore "The Abandonment of the Jews" by David S. Wyman. It's infuriating and heartbreaking in its findings.
