Is Ryan trying to appear hip, or has he actually read RATM's lyrics and they just didn't take?

"You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they're the chosen whites"

"Weapons not food, not homes, not shoes
Not need, just feed the war cannibal animal
I walk tha corner to tha rubble that used to be a library
Line up to tha mind cemetary now"

"They rally 'round the family
with a pocket full of shells"

"Is all tha world jails and churches?"

edited to add: (Springsteen cover)
"Now Tom Said; "Ma, whenever ya see a cop beatin' a guy
Wherever a hungry new born baby cries
Wherever there's a fight against the blood and hatred in the air
Look for me Ma, I'll be there
Wherever somebody's strugglin' for a place to stand
For a decent job or a helpin' hand
Wherever somebody is strugglin' to be free
Look in their eyes, Ma, You'll see me!"

Yeah, right. He and his Mullet buddies probably had a track on a mix tape with Digital Underground, Sir Mix-A-Lot, and Ton Loc and he had no idea what he was hearing.

Reagan/"Born in the USA" much?

Or... he probably asks his young staffers "whats hip". And one of them, surely rankled at being forced to read "Atlas Shrugged" in its entirety, thought they'd set the boss up for some embarrassment.

...Ryan is not very deep when it comes to music. He just likes the hard-driving rock to pump himself up for his work outs. He probably doesn't get the lyrics at all.

The main appeal of RATM to me is not only the incredible music but also the important messages they convey with their art. Truly one of my favorite bands because they elevate music and rock beyond just a basic emotional response. They make you think.

I guess Ryan just doesn't get that or if he does he'd rather not think about the message because it makes him face the fact that he's part of the problem and the 'machine' that they're raging against.

I picture him killing hissef a "baar" in the woods with his bow and arrow, wearing a coonskin cap, and living in the early 1800s.

Also, there's the possibility that he's just a fucking moron...historically with Republicans, that has often been the case.
