anything about him. I did a really quick Google and not much turned up. Does he just mostly tweet now?

(6,996 posts)I just recently removed the DU Keith Olbermann Group from my subscriptions. It was a place to comment on his show and various activities but now there is nothing happening. It's a shame.

(20,176 posts)I think he's largely made himself toxic and unemployable.
It's ironic because while some people might think "I suspect he's being silenced for his politics" (and I agree it might look that way if one only knows about his last two "job separations" if one had been paying attention since he got fired by ESPN back in the early 1990s where he was caught red-handed fabricating a source, it's clear that he's really just a bad employee. He guy's gotten fired/"mutually-separated" in high-profile spats from his last 5 employers; in all five cases, he's gone out screaming "persecution" and threatening litigation and revenge.
He's got a bad attitude, he's constantly having conflicts with even his most ardent employer supporters, he's good for some sort of scandal or incident about every 6 months, he's already gotten away with things that would have ended the careers of most journalists or destroyed their credibility forever.
KO did this to KO.

(9,314 posts)Olbermann was being courted by Current for months before his agent reached an agreement with MSNBC. Olbermann wanted out because he feared with the Comcast merger, MSNBC would be adversely impacted and some commentators would be "muzzled." Just look at the increased Republican presence on that network -- some of those shows are unwatchable now -- and it is obvious Olbermann was correct. Additionally, look at the increased presence of other Republicans, and it is indisputable that network is just not the same.
As for his leaving Current, I totally understand that. I watched his show religiously, and some of those technical difficulties were truly embarrassing. Current knew exactly what they were getting with Olbermann. He is a perfectionist and he is not going to sit in a studio where the lights go out while he broadcasting, for example, without raising holy hell because someone forgot to pay the bills. As much I love Al Gore, I remember what he said about Hyatt actually being in the driver's seat of the mechanics of things. All you have to do is look at his reputation (Hyatt's) and you just can't say this was all Olbermann's fault.
There is no substitute for a Keith Olbermann, although there are a couple of great commentators out there. But Olbermann dared to go where no others dared to go to tell the American public the political truth and I see no one on the landscape today with Olbermann's guts. The man is fearless. The fact that he is missing in action during this critical election year is appalling.
So I patiently wait to see if he will ever broadcast again anytime soon, and if so, the minute he does, I will be there.

(13,297 posts)I used to watch him early on and loved how the show brought forth facts and news to make a case, but too many easy, personal attacks that snuck in much later on turned me off over time. I love Rachel because she throws a ton of research at the stories and puts forth a real case for the storyline presented. The facts speak for themselves. I love forwarding her segments because they don't go over the top.
Keith's behind-the-scenes antics didn't appear to help and no doubt when I have seen clips of him at personal appearances or public speaking, he doesn't seem to draw in the audience as much as I think he imagines he does.
Sometimes I (jokingly) wonder if MSNBC and Fox both agreed that if Fox cut loose Beck, that MSNBC would cut loose Keith. Call it a day.

(39,215 posts)Current TV will not make it through the year economically speaking. We need as many good news sites as possible and no one knows that better than he does. Live up to your own teaching, Keith.

(310 posts)It takes a lot of guts, and yes maybe ego, to confront the system like he did. When you get a bunch of people gunning for you, it is just a matter of time before someone lands a bullet.
He added great insight to the public debate. He made a statement and challenged others to refute it. He made the statement with style and a bunch of humor.
We need more people like Keith Olbermann. I miss his presence.

(4,840 posts)the bells & whistles he is used to in a news program and take a pay cut but I could see Keith being able to support himself via a daily netcast type of gig.
