In the Dominican Republic, a nine-week pregnant girl was diagnosed with leukemia. The girl’s mother pleaded with doctors to “allow” her daughter to get an abortion so the girl she could begin chemotherapy immediately. “I know abortion is a sin, but my daughter’s health comes first,” she cried.

The doctors responded by forcing her and her daughter to view ultrasounds so the two women could see that the baby was healthy.

Three weeks after the girl was diagnosed, the doctors finally began chemotherapy, but still would not end the pregnancy. Ultimately, the young woman miscarried the pregnancy, hemorrhaged, and died.
She was 16 years old.

by refusing the woman an abortion. I can see that happening here in the US with states that have late-term abortion laws and no exceptions. It seems we are always on the brink of losing the war against Republicans on this issue.

29. In the US this would be grounds for a malpractice lawsuit, possibly even a revocation of a medical

license. The meds used for chemotherapy will inevitably cause a miscarriage. And, a miscarriage that occurs on chemo will cause massive bleeding and infection.

Sadly, the Catholic Church would say that the right thing was done. A priest once told me that if you have cancer and the cancer treatment kills the fetus, that is all part of God's plan. But you are not allowed to end the pregnancy in advance of cancer treatment in order to save the mother. That was sick then and it is sick now. I hope Pope Prada can sleep with himself.
