Robert Costa: Trump confidant says Trump's still talking today about declaring a national emergency

Trump confidant tells me he’s still talking today about declaring a national emergency if talks collapse... and he’s getting encouraged by several of his friends on hard right to do just that, knowing it’d be challenged immediately

Maggie Haberman's comment on this:

More on what @costareports is hearing - Trump has been talking about it for several days, and White House counsel's office has taken a look at what is possible since the shutdown began and Trump revived talk of this inside White House.

Bill Kristol:

I assume this is just talk. If it’s not, Trump would be provoking a constitutional crisis that would lead to resignations of senior officials, not just civilian but also military if he sought to use the military illegally, and the start of impeachment proceedings.

16. Proceed. It's just what is needed to bring about his impeachment sooner. Just stop the shutdown.

One can goad Trump into doing anything if you make it seem like it will give him more power and moves towards the dictatorship he so craves. This would be the "straw." Bring it!

as soon as he does, pass the funding bill, then do whatever is necessary to shut down the "national emergency" bullshit.

(CNN) President Donald Trump is inclined to declare a national emergency to secure military funding for his long-promised southern border wall if talks between administration officials and top lawmakers from both parties continue to stall, a White House official told CNN on Saturday.

but to be a pawn of trump must be hell.

If he ordered martial law I think there would be fighting in the ranks. WE remained loyal to each other in Vietnam most of the time. But today who knows what the troops are thinking.

14. Trump Is Stupid Enough To Do It.....

If the Dems continue to hold fast with 'no wall' and Trump is backed further into a corner - I fear that the Hannity's, Limbaugh's, Coulter's and Ingraham's will telegraph to Trump that he doesn't need the Dems to keep his promise of the wall - that he could do it himself using his National Emergency Powers.

Remember the last time they embarrassed Trump on the wall. That led to the current shutdown. He's easily had by those Conservative mouthpieces - and I fear he will cave to them and invoke the Emergency Power. They will goad him into doing it.

As soon as they go against him on anything he'll bypass ALL of Congress too by declaring martial law for him to then have absolute power over Democrats and Republicans . He then can do anything putin wants him to do to this country, or use the military against this countries own people. Once he does that , republicans are then powerless , and have to do as he wants or else. trump IS a terrorist, and should be treated as one.
