Former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell files for divorce, years after trial aired marital woes

By Laura Vozzella The Washington Post 1 hr ago

Former Gov. Bob McDonnell, R-Va., has filed for divorce from his wife, Maureen, his onetime co-defendant in a tawdry corruption trial that exposed their marital problems and tarnished his political legacy before the U.S. Supreme Court tossed out his conviction.

McDonnell filed for divorce in early November in Virginia Beach Circuit Court. The former first lady was served five days later, court records indicate. The divorce filing, which is under seal, was first reported by WTOP radio.

The former governor and his lawyer, Reeves Mahoney, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. No lawyer was listed for Maureen McDonnell.

The Virginian-Pilot reported Monday that McDonnell confirmed to the paper that he filed the paperwork. He declined to comment further.

McDonnell, 64, who served from 2010 to 2014, had been regarded as a rising GOP star before his financial relationship with wealthy Richmond businessman Jonnie R. Williams Sr. drew scrutiny late in his term.

It’s more like he doesn’t want to be with someone so corrupt. Or something.

Isn’t this the guy who pretended to be on the Applachian Trail while he was hanging out with his mistress? Too lazy to google to keep these sleazy republican’s bs straight in my head.

Thanks for the memory prod.

I’ve missed some turns and had to backtrack many times. Never over shot the end of a trail by over 5000 miles. Doing a through hike would be awesome.
