These are two people who have been negotiating things of consequence at the highest level most of their adult lives.

Always has been, but the last 2 years he had a spineless complicit Speaker and Majority Leader. While he still has the complicit Majority Leader, he now has to deal with a House that will check his power.

Trump is used to pushing people with less money or clout around. As you said, that is how he had always done business. He picks fights with people he can outspend or choke up in court. Notice how he tries to jab at Mike Bloomberg, but has NEVER tried to sue or actually back up the words he has spoken. He knows Bloomberg is actually rich and powerful and will clean his clock.

He thought that Schumer and Pelosi being public servants would be easy to cow, but he is finding out what real power is.
