This was discussed over and over on MSNBC yesterday. It's not about "getting" the wall, it's about keeping the "base" aroused. Look at where we are at right now. It's January 10th, and all we have accomplished so far is one temper tantrum after another. The Democrats are standing firm, they have repeatedly pointed back to "deals" that REPUBLICANS approved and looked good to go until Limbaugh and Coulter threw fits. And Trump has painted himself into a corner, but the MAGAts don't see that. They see their "president" fighting for his wall and keeping his campaign promise to them, and that's exactly what Trump wants them to see.
