A death investigation is underway in Hernando County after a person was decapitated by a helicopter at Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport.
According to Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis, they received a call for help around 3:35 p.m. on Thursday.
When deputies arrived, they found a person dead near a hanger on airport property located along Flight Path Drive in Brooksville.
The identity of the victim has not released. Investigators are in the process of notifying next of kin.

(7,496 posts)Always stay within the pilots field of view and maintain eye contact.
Never move towards the tail rotor or any exhaust.
Never touch the helicopter or sling cable before it has landed or touched the ground.
Always wear your seat belt.
Always latch the seat belt AFTER you get up to leave the aircraft.
If the doors are on, make sure theyre fully closed and latched.
Never exit the aircraft and walk uphill away from it!
If the terrain is uneven, the pilot may indicate that you stay close to the fuselage and remain there as he lifts off.
If youre not getting on, getting off or loading/unloading the aircraft, you have no business being close to it.
Stay well outside the rotor area whenever the helicopter is landing or taking off.
Use eye protection - always.

(4,288 posts)I read of an incident a few years ago where the pilot was walking away from a small helicopter and a gust of wind tipped it in his direction. That's all it took.
