Ivanka Trump being considered to replace Kim as President of the World Bank

Various articles (Business Insider, The Independent, et al) have announced that Ivanka Trump, the daughter of Donald Trump is "being considered" as the next President of the World Bank.

First, things like this don't happen in a vacuum. Somebody had to nominate her. The articles are silent on this topic. Connecting the dots, a reasonable premise and conclusion can be made that if Barack Obama nominated Kim in 2016 in his capacity as POTUS, then DJT nominated his daughter. He's tried to offer her high-profile jobs, such as replacing Nikki Haley at the U.N. in the past.

Second, Ivanka obviously doesn't have the sufficient education and experience to head an institution such as the World Bank. No MBA. No Masters Degree, period. Running a section of the Trump Organization doesn't cut it as she's done whatever her father has told her and the same may be said about her babysitting position at the WH.

Third, traditionally, the US government has essentially chosen the head of the World Bank, provided that the other members could be persuaded or coerced to vote for the choice. But maybe not this time . . . . .

Will Donald Trump get to pick the next president of the World Bank? Maybe not.

Historically, the process has been straightforward, if not without controversy: The U.S. government has always chosen the president of the World Bank. But there’s no official reason this should be the case. Indeed, according to the formal rules of the World Bank’s Articles of Agreement, the president is selected by a vote of the institution’s executive directors, the 25-person board that oversees the bank. These directors represent the interests of national governments and, in principle, could choose to select a president who has been nominated by any government.

In practice, however, informal rules and influence play an important role in shaping the activities of the World Bank and other international organizations. One of the strongest informal rules at the bank is that the executive directors will endorse whatever candidate the U.S. government nominates. Throughout its 75-year history, every World Bank president has been an American.

Today, however, all three sources of support are eroding. The United States’ position as the sole global hegemon has been declining for years, and emerging markets have been demanding a greater voice in international institutions to reflect their growing power in the world economy. Indeed, during the last open presidential search — held in 2012 — there were already signs of waning U.S. influence. Two alternative (and highly qualified) candidates ran against Kim, the U.S. nominee: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala of Nigeria and José Antonio Ocampo of Colombia. (One or both may throw their hats in again this time.) Kim won, but it was a more competitive process than ever before.

Moreover, the Donald Trump presidency has probably accelerated the erosion of American influence at the World Bank, by undermining U.S. soft power and the tacit bargain with Europe. Trump’s aggressive “America First” approach to international diplomacy has alienated other countries. Foreign governments no longer trust the United States to adopt positions that are in the global interest. Whoever the Trump administration nominates for the position is likely to face more skepticism than prior U.S. nominees.

the media again, and the media falling all over themselves to fall into the trap.

All the articles were transparent. They all said she was "being considered" without ever explaining who was considering her or how it happened that such a ridiculous candidate would be considered. So someone just tossed out this nonsense, and all the media picked it up without asking the most basic questions.

I am bone tired of this kind of nonsense.

it was a well written article, with no mention of Ivanka Trump, unless it was in a link in the link.

The main gist of the article had more to do with how the head of the bank should be selected instead of deferring to the United States to nominate someone. The article talked about how Trump has eroded U.S. global influence.

The article was asking the question whether the U.S. should head the world bank, no matter who the nominee was.

What am I missing? I think the article asks valid questions.

republicans piss repeatedly on honorable America values like honesty, fairness, respect, decency, dignity, transparency, honor, and loyalty to America. They give their loyalty rather to a freaking fascist evil empire* that ronald reagan warned us about and that republicans have greedily climbed into bed with like nasty horny teenage grunts.
