WaPo-ABC News poll. Shutdown blame 53% Trump - 29% Dems. WALL support 42% (+8 from last year)

By a wide margin, more Americans blame President Trump and Republicans in Congress than congressional Democrats for the now record-breaking government shutdown, and most reject the president’s assertion that there is an illegal-immigration crisis on the southern border, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.

Support for building a wall on the border, which is the principal sticking point in the stalemate between the president and Democrats, has increased over the past year. Today, 42 percent say they support a wall, up from 34 percent last January. A slight majority of Americans (54 percent) oppose the idea, down from 63 percent a year ago.

It looks to me like no one is being swayed one way or the other. The thing is that if that holds, that bad for Republicans.

There are areas at the border that require barriers and have them already. These barriers need to be maintained. There are also some barriers that need to be improved. But there are many areas where barriers (walls, etc.) would never be cost effective. There is technology and manpower available for those areas that does not require physical barriers.

Very few people honestly support Trump's vision of a big beautiful 2000 (?) mile border WALL. Just as very few support "open borders". Most realize this is not a crisis, but support some strategic added barriers and technology if not economically wasteful.

This must be how woke Germans felt in the late thirties. Sick, nauseous … helpless when fellow citizens drink the koolaid so freely …

The level of stupidity it would require to HONESTLY believe a WALL on our southern border in 2018 is going to solve ANYTHING is beyond my comprehension.

Seriously, these people should not be allowed to reproduce.

The WALL was the focus of attention a year ago. Now it's a polarizing binary issue. I'd think a lot of people will say they support it just because it makes them feel like they are more patriotic. Just a guess.

He's made the ignorant wall synonymous with any sort of support for himself. Sort of a propos.
