Update: The place where Rand Paul is going to get surgery is private.

It's not a part of Canada's national healthcare system.

Shouldice was founded in 1945 by Dr. Earle Shouldice.[1][2] While private hospitals are not allowed under Ontario's Private Hospitals Act,[2] Shouldice is one of seven private hospitals in the province grandfathered under the Act.

The point is that Rand Paul is trying to destroy the average American's access to health care, while *he* is wealthy enough to go wherever he wants to.

Shouldice Center is only "world renowned" in their own mind. If the "Shouldice" repair for inguinal hernia surgery was as great as they have been touting for decades, every hernia surgeon in the world would use that same approach. Their "no mesh"/"natural tissue" approach has its place in certain circumstances, but that approach is not the standard, nor is it an approach I would recommend any patient to undergo for their first option in inguinal hernia repair.
