Got one on the voice mail this morning. threats to be dropped from Medicare unless I call them back by pressing 1.
Or 9 to remove number from their call list.

(86,843 posts)open my phone but make no sound while I wait 15 seconds then hang up. I wait a few minutes and then call the number back. I often get "number disconnected" notices and sometimes it's some unsuspecting individual who has no idea their number is being used for such scams. I also will google some numbers only to find they've been reported already.

(60,010 posts)So just called the number back. "Not in service"
they show spoofed numbers when they robo-call, so you can't track 'em down.

(86,843 posts)If there is no human, they often think it's not a valid #, a robot will hang up after 15 - 30 seconds anyway if there's no sound. I get fewer of them since I started doing that.
I did like that one video that I saw here on DU last week where some techie set up a robocall return to the scammers and shut them down as ever number they used was then used as a callback with constant computer dialing so that the scammers couldn't call out or get incoming calls, it was righteous.

(16,646 posts)Said I was in danger of losing my Medicare. Which I found funny since I'm not on medicare. I asked about that little detail and he hung up. Of course my SPOUSE is on medicare but they didn't seem to know that.

(20,222 posts)They are robocalls from local numbers that go straight to my voice mail but tell me to call a "700" area code number. Turns out it's a scam.

(82,849 posts)DUMBASS SCAMMER: "This is Alex, to whom do I have the pleasure of speaking with today?"
INNER VOICE: Oh, Alex (which I know is not your real name, Sanjay), this isn't going to be pleasurable for you at all.
ME: "What? Are you drunk? You sound like you're drunk or on drugs."
DS: "What?"
ME: "I think you're drunk! Let me talk to your supervisor! Now."
The call is usually over by this point, but I keep hammering on the dingbat being drunk or on drugs and demanding to speak to a supervisor. Then I block the number and delete all logs of the call, and go on my merry way.

(10,844 posts)If so, I've received about a dozen. I don't pickup this type of call and on this one they never leave a message.

(60,010 posts)they are not "real" numbers thno...the art of pasting spoofed numbers is quite developed by now, so the look up thing on our phones is not as valuable now.
