the 501(c)(4) American Future Fund from Iowa releases ads in Wisconsin and Florida.

The American Future Fund is a 501(c)(4) organization which primarily focuses on nonpartisan education and advocacy on important national issues. American Future Fund Political Action is a federal political committee which primarily helps members elect candidates who reflect our values through a variety of activities aimed at influencing the outcome of the next election. American Future Fund Political Action and the American Future Fund are separate organizations.

I'm tired of this masquerade this organization's and others like it need their status pulled.

Peddling Innuendo, Exaggerations on ‘Obama’s Wall Street’

American Future Fund continues to exaggerate the facts in a new round of TV ads attacking President Obama’s ties to Wall Street. We do give the group partial credit, however, for correcting a misstatement from one ad it has re-released. It gets “partial credit” because the group corrected the error once in the revised ad, but then repeated the error elsewhere in the same ad. And the group didn’t make any revisions to address other gross misstatements in the ad.

Ads starting today.

2. What would be the purpose of pulling their 501(c)(4) status?

They aren't required to be non-partisan. They can call themselves whatever they choose, but they are obviously partisan, which is permitted.

4. I understand that

But on what basis would you pull their status? Not disclosing their donors isn't a basis for pulling the 501(c)(4) status.

5. I'm admittedly in over my head here but I'll give it a shot.

To be 501(c)(4) it need be operated exclusively to promote social welfare, an organization must operate primarily to further the common good and general welfare of the people of the community.

How does giving mis-information, inaccurate information or to take it a step further lying.... further the common good and general welfare of the community. This is propaganda which as defined is - information, ideas, or rumors deliberately spread widely to help or harm a person, group, movement, institution, or nation. I would cull from that... this is not for the common good or the general welfare of the overall community

There's an argument there.

Exposing their donors is really the point of OP not their tax exempt status.

Since 501(c)(4) orgs have to pay taxes on any funds spent for political advocacy, it pretty much negates the "community welfare" aspect.

8. Then are you prepared to have Republicans call for Priorities USA to have their status revoked?

The Republicans say they weren't truthful when they tied Mitt Romney to the cancer death of the steel worker's wife after Bain laid him off.

Misrepresentation and outright lying in politics? Say it ain't so!

***edited to add: there is nothing in the IRS code that says 501(c)(4) orgs have to be non-partisan.

9. Most definitely. Interesting that you went there. Misdirection. The original argument still holds.

Having being addressed in presser and rebutted. It confused the message. It also gave the opposition a posture to incorrectly state Obama's campaigning strategy - being able to parse out one ad which stated in the press conference ran one day. The talking point generated last for weeks and was heard on radio call-in shows entertainment news show and in your favorite local gathering places.

Wasn't sure which you were going after.

"Community welfare" is a pretty broad category, and I don't see any way this could be shut down unless we're willing to have the Republicans try to shut down the 501(c)(4) orgs that are on the side of Democrats.

what the donation number reflects and the content of the ads in this case would allow it to be proved through in court.

Shut them all down. It need be done.
