Holy heist, Batman! A thief zapped a South Florida collector by stealing a collection of comics of the Caped Crusader and the Boy Wonder worth $1.4 million, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
Randy Lawrence said his collection of 450 registered Batman and Detective comic books were stolen from an air-conditioned, double-locked storage unit in Boca Raton.
Now, Lawrence is hoping officials can catch the joker who took the comics. But for now, the theft is a riddle.
The Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office is investigating the theft, which occurred sometime between Nov. 28 and Jan. 8, WFOR reported. Storage facility personnel were reviewing surveillance videos, the television station reported.

(10,437 posts)in 1966. I had card collections going back to early 1950s and no less than 5 dozen autographed cards as I went to many White Sox games in late 50's until we moved and made a point to collect as many signatures of the players I could. Back in those days, players would sign the cards if they had time. I had all the Yankee greats (no matter how much I detested the team) including notable rookie cards and at least 2 dozen autographed cards of Yankees from Mantle to Ford to Maris . The lost still bugs the hell out of with all the work I put into it as a kid.
My prized cards were 1961 autographed Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle, 1952 rookie card of Mantle (worth the most I think now). My parents had no idea of the value.

(146,336 posts)What does that mean, really?
Were the locks unlocked to steal this stuff? Or was it a physical break-in?
If they were unlocked, who had the keys or combinations? Look there.
If it was a physical break-in, bypassing the locks, then the surveillance video should have it.
So, Mr. Lawrence, who have you shown your collection to at the storage facility? Who has access to the keys or combinations for your double locks? When were you there last? Does the storage facility have back-up keys or combinations? Did you supply the locks, or were they supplied by the storage facility? Who are all of the people who knew you had this collection stored there? Was your collection insured?
So many questions...
