I gather he offered a few pennies for good things in exchange for billions for his idiotic wall.

(25,183 posts)And since a bill has already been passed and signed that restores back pay, the furloughed employees and the ones deemed essential that have been ordered to work without pay will at least get that, even if it might be insufficient to make them whole.
He's hoping that our side will flatly reject the deal, and the onus of blame goes on us instead of him. He will proceed apace with deportation of TPS beneficiaries, and wait for the SCOTUS to end DACA protections. Then, we get nothing.

If it did get it there, then we have to decide, is what he offered good enough for barrier/fence/wall money that is only slightly more than we spend on food stamps in a month?
Yes, the DACA and TPS protections are only for three years. Are we confident enough that we can retake the White House in 2020?

(25,183 posts)Either Democratic leadership tries to work with this proposal, and secures the best deal they can get, or the shutdown continues, and even the pennies don't make it to the border.
And, we then own the shutdown in the minds of many Federal workers.
If you want to talk about "pennies", two months worth of unpaid food stamps is way more that what Drumpf wants for his wall/fence/barrier. If the shutdown lasts for another three months, we'll see poor families doing without as well as the dotard doing without what he wants.

(4,066 posts)The real estimates put it at over $20 billion. Then there is the maintenance of it after it's there.
We need so many other things so much worse.
