Mike Huckabee explains the upside of rape

Mike Huckabee Would Like to Remind You That Rape Has Created Some Extraordinary People
John Cook

Why is everybody so down on rape? This is what Mike Huckabee wanted to know today, on his radio program, which also featured Rep. Todd "Legitimate Rape" Akin as a guest. For instance, did you know that Ethel Waters was conceived when her mother got raped? Do you know what a world without rape would look like? A world without Ethel Waters, that's what.

This is what Mike Huckabee said today, as transcribed by the Los Angeles Times' James Rainey, about the upside of being raped and then getting pregnant:

"Ethel Waters, for example, was the result of a forcible rape," Huckabee said of the late American gospel singer. One-time presidential candidate Huckabee added: "I used to work for James Robison back in the 1970s, he leads a large Christian organization. He, himself, was the result of a forcible rape. And so I know it happens, and yet even from those horrible, horrible tragedies of rape, which are inexcusable and indefensible, life has come and sometimes, you know, those people are able to do extraordinary things."

afraid to walk certain streets, would not have to be afraid of date rape drugs, that strange man behind her, the man who enters her home intent on harm. but we cannot have that, can we?

no, for the sake of ethel waters, we MUST have rape. you are one sick, twisted fucker, mikey.

I am reminded of a young woman who spoke at a roe v wade rally in sacramento years ago. there were the usual woman-hating anti-choicers around the rally. she pointed at them and said, "I am the woman that those people say had to be born as a product of rape. I am here to tell you that I hate each and every one of them. My life has been nothing but a misery."

I wonder how these men would feel if it was their daughters who were raped. Would they be so casual about their attitudes toward sexual assault?

I've lived with these archaic attitudes my entire life, but I thought we'd finally evolved. If these assholes think they're going to drag women back to the 19th century, they'd better prepare for World War III.

The GOP Agenda: Controlling the Means of (Re)Production

Sometimes it takes me a while, but the pieces have finally slid into place. Like a lot of others, I have been mistakenly thinking that the GOP’s legislative campaign against women is about domination or subversion or repression or some other kind of man-woman conflict. It’s not at all. It is about dehumanization: the puppet party of business seeking dominion over the population by controlling our reproduction.

Consider that the ideal environment for multinational corporations is pretty much the opposite of what benefits humans:

Corporations would like to drive down the worldwide cost of human capital in order to own and manage a world economy. We have already seen how this is accomplished. On the production side, corporations play leapfrog, moving factories from country to country based on marginal labor savings. On the revenue side, they drain the private assets of countries whose citizens still have money. With no resources, the citizens are ripe to be exploited as the next labor force...

They gain a little ground with their base and they don't know when to stop. They just have to push it a little farther and then a bit more, until it blows up their faces. They think people have forgotten. It was so long ago and people are so complacent and self-centered now, they won't notice too much.

Perhaps it is "dehumanization" or maybe its arrogance or flat out stupidity, but people haven't forgotten. They just started to take things for granted, got a little lazy, but it doesn't take much to refresh their memories. Women's rights and civil rights were hard fought battles, and republicans seem to want to reignite them! I think they'll wish they hadn't.

Thanks for letting me vent!!!

Ever been raped asshole? There is no upside. There's no such thing as "legitimate" rape. Rape is a crime of violence. Period. There's no super powers in my womb. There's no legitimizing a violent act against me, or any other person. If I so choose to remove a physical result from my body, a result of said act of violence, that's not something government should have any say over.

These people are beyond mentally deranged. There's no excuse for their thought process.

And, the vice presidential candidate is one of them. That's disgusting. New all time low for the Republican party.

definition.
It is like saying "suffocating strangulation", is there any strangulation that does not suffocate, or any rape that is not forced?

Second of all, he is using a false argument, he is implying that the fruit of something bad can be at times possibly good and therefore the bad should be allowed for the rare good that may possibly inadvertently happen as a result of the bad, the argument negates itself in this specific use as soon as one produces examples of undesirable people that have been conceived inadvertently as the result of similar evil actions.

The real problem with his argument however, is that it uses two imaginary axioms to arrive at his conclusion, one is that there is some reason to consider weighing the potential good of an evil action to begin with, what is a reasonable example of this assumption?
Do we consider if a murderer should be allowed to murder because he MAY perchance kill an evil worse than himself? of course not, so why does he consider it self evident that such potentials are even part of the discussion?

The second false axiom is his assumption that anyone but the raped women should have any opinion whatsoever about what she feels she should or should not do about it.

If this man is considered an intelligent commentator then we are already living in an Idiocracy.
