Prez: Romney 'Welfare' Ads Making Claim That “Everyone In This Room Knows Is Untrue'

Last edited Tue Aug 21, 2012, 08:54 AM - Edit history (2)

from White House press conference today: http://www.examiner.com/article/president-holds-news-conference-addressing-akin-medicare-and-the-campaign

____ As to the criticism by his campaign over Romney’s tax returns, the President said that releasing taxes is “precedent set decades ago.” He said it just makes sense for a candidate to release his returns The President said we are having a debate on reform of tax code and how to pay for government. That is why transparency is important to let voters make sure every one plays by the same rules, including candidates for the highest office.

“We have not suggested Romney is doing anything illegal,” he said. “The one tax return Romney released revealed that he has a Swiss bank account. Even though it is legal, the average American does not have one. That is relevant information for a voter to determine how a candidate feels about the tough choices on taxes that need to be made.”

Obama said, “Contrast that with ads that Governor Romney runs everyday saying things about welfare that “everyone in this room knows is untrue.

The President said that what he did was respond to requests by governors, including Republicans, who wanted more flexibility in getting people off welfare. The President said the truth is that in order to get a waiver, the governors need to show how they will get at least 20% more people off welfare. If they can’t show it, they don’t get the waiver.

“The Romney ad and statements he makes on the stump are just not true,” the President said, “You can’t make stuff up.”

the veiled "get on your job media" challenge? I hope the target audience didn't and starts acting as the media should ... calling campaigns out on their inaccuracies.

But I fear they will do the "romney lied about {insert lie here} AND President Obama's one sentence at the end of his speech 2 years ago is still being debated because if you take that sentence, on it's face, without consider the previous 22 sentences that put it in context..." equivalence thing.

The video is here and I downloaded it. If you want me to post it here to go along with it, I will.

I felt the first question the woman asked was biased and loaded. And people ask, why doesn't he do this more often?

It's not because he can't take criticism or slanted questions. It's because the media won't cover him, or edits and distorts clips like Breitbart.

He gave great answers and he always knows what he's talking about. I wish that more people would get to see all the campaign videos and this one too.

Although I think he ends up talking over these people's heads, they can't comprehend him. I don't think any of them are half as smart as he is.

everyone in this room knows . . . yet, will still play the gotcha game to see if they can equivocate by making both ads look like they cancel each other out. The press in that room are more than willing to let Romney's false attack hang out there as a legitimate political attack, using outside groups efforts as a comparison. let's have at that, then. Let's make Romney directly responsible for Rove's ads, not just the ones (like the welfare ad) that he sponsors and endorses personally..

and,

The press in that room are more than willing to let Romney's false attack hang out there as a legitimate political attack, using outside groups efforts as a comparison.

And in the those very rare instances where they hint at the falaciousness of the ads, they preface it by saying: "Democrats (or, worse, SOME Democrats) say that this ad is a distortion of the facts." Thereby, allowing comfirmational biases to negate their hint.

knows is untrue"... "but are too wimpy. like your role model mitt, to say it out loud." Says Luther: PObama's Anger Translator..lol..

"Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele are about to launch the second season of their breakout Comedy Central sketch show Key & Peele, so it’s probably a good time to put their most popular characters back in the spotlight. It certainly doesn’t hurt that those characters include an impersonation of President Obama and we’re only a few months from a presidential election. So, it couldn’t be a better time for the show to bring us another look at Peele’s Obama and his “anger translator” Luther (Key) as they give their thoughts on Mitt Romney’s missing tax returns."

In fact, that's what the Romney campaign has been doing all along, just making shit up. The entire Romney campaign is built of fictions and running against a fictional president.

What remains to be seen is if the conservative media (which is most of the US national media) is powerful enough to win based on those fictions.
