(37 posts)... have always been maligned as 'hysterical' by men seeking to control them. I don't think that approach will work on Kamala Harris though

(118,778 posts)her name as a candidate first came up. Maybe that was the end of 2016? Can't remember. GOP is terrified of her.

(935 posts)Lindsay Graham after the Kathleen Blasey Ford testimony. Pitched himself quite a bitch. Recall it? If a woman had done it, she surely woulda been labeled unhinged, hysterical, or out of control.

(51,627 posts)The population would rake her over the coals like they did Obama. She would be given the same treatment as Hillary did plus what they did to Obama on top of it. So many other countries (3rd world countries in fact) have women leaders and have for decades. We are very racist and misogynistic and Putin used that to divide the country with his trolls and bots and social media and he still is doing it successfully. I sincerely doubt we will see a female president in the next 25 years who isn't harassed by the GOP. Women are still second class citizens to them. I had this conversation with a female and Dem friend tonight and she agrees. The US is way behind in this area and much more prejudiced than we want to admit.

(108,994 posts)the first female President will probably be a woman like Republican Nikki Haley. And then a whole generation of women will have be tempted to vote for her because her party was brave enough to put a woman out there -- and ours wasn't.
Is that what you want to happen?

What exactly are you trying to tell us?

(59,504 posts)Look at how anyone who becomes a front runner is treated.
May we need to do 2 things; pick a nominee who can handle whatever attacks happen and have ALL Democrats work together to protect the nominee and amplify his or her response.

(12,448 posts)it sounds like you're listing reasons for women not to run. I hope that wasn't your intention. We have some strong women candidates and I want to see them run, and one of them win.

(51,627 posts)I voted for Obama and Hillary in the primaries and the elections. But for 8 years and two years since I'm poor Obama was treated like crap and so was Hillary. I was expecting Hillary to be treated the same way if she won, no wait, she did win. Realistically I do not think the GOP would treat any woman or minority with respect and I am sick of it but until the older white dude voters die off I do not see the attitude changing in the immediate future. Of course I will cheer on and GOTV for my Dem candidate whoever that is.

(51,627 posts)I think any Dem (male, female, LGBTQ, old, young, middle age, black, white, yellow, purple, cat, dog, bird, etc) would be better than a GOP elected official but nothing has changed since the election. Americans were prejudiced then, now and will be in two years and probably will be after that too. Russia knew we are a prejudiced nation and used it to divide us successfully. Even women are anti-female (which finally dawned on me after 2016 and I am still pissed off at them for being traitors). Yep, this past election was verification that not only are we as prejudiced as I thought we were but in reality are MORE prejudiced than I had already believed. This is reality and it isn't pretty.
BigmanPigman is a Pink Floyd reference but I am a woman and a feminist. I cried during the Kavanaugh hearings and was the first person in my city to sign up for the first Women's March.

(16,856 posts)They don't find the need to denigrate his maleness the way that "hysterical" does to women.

(16,856 posts)Calling someone hysterical doesn't really describe a person, it just conjures images of shrieking harpies. "Hysteria" is a word that has outlived its usefulness, and it never had much use to begin with.
