If you supported Akins a week ago...

If you supported Akin a week ago, what would have happened to change your mind?

Seriously. If you supported banning all abortion a week ago you were already an atavistic woman-hater, whatever your sex.

Sadly, Republicans are not, for the most part, confused Democrats merely needing one more stray datum to see the light.

His comments were appalling but were less immoral than his official positions, which won him the nomination... and were the positions of a front-runner. In a somewhat purple state.

If Akins collapses as a candidate that collapse will consist of him dropping from the low-50s to the mid-40s.

Win or lose, almost half of our population is beyond persuasion. Only the progression of generational demographics will dislodge their attitudes.

If they distance themselves, even in a small way, they hope to lessen the blowback of their support of Akin. They do this because it threatens their power.

Politicians know his comments were poison nationally. But many of the Missouri voters who were on his side probably don't see any problem in his comments.

Missouri is a very polarized state. Though it isn't deep red numerically its Republican population can match anyone for primitivity.
