Pelosi Statement on Senate Vote on House-Passed Bill to Re-Open Government

Pelosi Statement on Senate Vote on House-Passed Bill to Re-Open Government

January 22, 2019

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Pelosi issued this statement in advance of scheduled Senate votes, first on the President’s unacceptable, radical immigration and border demands, and the second, on legislation to re-open the government with a House-passed package consisting of a continuing resolution through February 8 in addition to the disaster supplemental legislation:

“On Thursday, the Senate will have the opportunity to put a bipartisan bill on the President’s desk to re-open government and end this senseless shutdown.

“Families across the nation have been suffering under the shutdown for more than a month. There is no excuse for Senate Republicans not to pass this legislation, which contains the funding proposal that they have already supported.

“Senate Republicans need to re-open government, not continue their complicity in the Trump Shutdown with a vote for the President’s unacceptable border and immigration schemes that only increase the chaos and suffering at the border.

“The Senate GOP and President Trump must stop holding the American people hostage, and re-open government immediately.”

WHAT bill was the Democratic one that was offered because the M$M articles spent 95% of their endless column inches detailing the bullshit GOP bill.

Broadcast tv news was so full of bothsides and the Trump / McConnell bill.

They want an uproar regardless of what it costs people.

been kicking ass. But today on MSNBC Chris Van Holland was on and was speaking what to most Americans might as well have been Greek. Dems please speak in the people’s third grade language level. Plain English. I mean “Appropriation Bills” , “ Bi-Partisian Bills” and other stilted language that goes way over the heads of 95% of the public. Obama was guilty of this, always speaking at a post-graduate level. Say “we Dems passed a bill with support from both Republicans and Democrats to reopen the government”. Say “over 100 Republicans in the House refused to vote to allow sanctions relief for a billionaire Russian businessman” not “there was bi-partian opposition to the lifting of sanctions against a Russian oligarach” as Van Holland said. My goodness speak plainly Dems in House and Senate. Please!

They HAVE been "saying that" for the past 3 weeks, day in and day out, literally as soon as they were sworn in and started debate and voting on bills.

If trump, McConnell demand wall money that Mexico was gonna pay for, Pelosi should offer all the money he needs, but from eliminating the tax cuts and all rich loop holes to fully pay for it. That includes a 35% tax on all the trump's. They pay nothing in taxes so time for them to pay for what they demand. The trillion plus he already has added to our debt is disgusting. No more cash for golf and Mar-A-Logo play days. Every single policy to help citizens for health care and education, all they scream is where is the money? Tax Rusty Limpballs, Hannity, and Ingraham. They want it, buy it.

You know they will never agree ever to pay for any of it. They are cool with us actual tax payers footing the bill, knowing most of them, like trump, never pay a dime of taxes. Pelosi can throw that fiscal CONservitive shit in their face and show good faith in opening the government while they refuse to anti up a dime.

keep it up, lower the vocabulary and shed the bullshit elitists label we have allowed the Republicans to define us as. We represent policies consistent with 95% of the population and we need to let people know that in plain English. I can’t believe I’m even saying this, but the outward display of education and intelligence in today’s politics Hurts more than helps. Look at Bush vs Gore, Bush vs Kerry, Hillary vs Dotard , even with all the voter suppression and Russian help these should have been blow out elections. But no we have allowed Republicans to define who we are while they parade around passing laws and regulations that harm most Americans. Look at “right to work” laws, death tax etc. Republicans are masters at manipulating our language and people to believe in things that harm them. I think we are in the right track now and I hope our new lawmakers learned valuable lessons from past defeats. Only democrats define what the Democratic Party stands for. I want the Republican Party to be voted in extinction!

Yes, the Republicans are masters of manipulation but no, we haven't allowed them to define anything about us. That's their plan, that's their public manipulation. They keep pushing the stupid button and their followers eat it up. Are we going to follow their lead? Ho, they'd love that. Then who is defining who? We would be defining ourselves according to their downward pointing finger and we'd be to blame. No thank you.

But I know there are many others in the Democratic caucuses of both chambers who have been out there - including on twitter and other social media, laying it out over and over.

A problem though is that we are all caught up in the media's obsession with turning a profit so it behooves them to obfuscate the messages in order to cause "drama" and get more eyeballs and clicks thanks to the "conflicts" that they have stoked and stirred.

That's 8th grade level. How far down do we go? When people decide they can't learn at an 8th grade level do we go to 3rd grade? 1st grade? Illiterate? What's wrong with coming up to a level that the rest of the world understands? Have we become that lazy and entertainment tv oriented? The answer is yes, America has become that apathetic. The last thing we should do is appease that apathy which has been caused by appeasement of that mind set for 40 years. It's a downward spiral.

Rep. Collin Peterson already had his say: ‘Give Trump the money,’ Democratic Rep. Collin Peterson says as shutdown drags on

...but we CANNOT ignore the fundamental fact that if we give Trump the money, he will pull this every time he doesn't get his way.

That tactic has to end somewhere, and it might as well end here and now.
