.........I don't know if you should invoke God todd, she's a bit pissed off at you right now.
When under attack, republicans wrap themselves in the flag and wave a bible around and invoke the name of God. That's to appease the Christian Conservative voters, drag God into it.
You'd better pray real hard today todd, I know we here on the sane side of the spectrum are praying extra hard for you.

(15,019 posts)It's like when a church bus crashes into a tree, all but one person is killed, and the survivor always says God, or a guardian angel was watching out for them. The others who were killed however, must not have prayed to God hard enough to receive her grace.

(8,127 posts)the bible has some pretty weird passages about rape :p
like the one in deuteronomy that says if a woman doesnt cry out for help while being raped she should be stoned to death (the man that raped her too, but still)... crazy stuff
id imagine if u asked him why he feels the way he does about rape and abortion, hed say because of his religious beliefs

(15,019 posts)I seriously doubt that ANY of these blowhard God invoking republicans believe in any God at all, it's just something you say to draw the suckers in.
The bible pretty much considers women as chattle, and that's good enough for the gop

(9,841 posts)I don't see why these absurd and offensive comments about God being on one side of a political race should go unquestioned by journalists or opponents.

(15,019 posts)I agree, invoking a diety to win a 'race' is just plain ignorant, but the ignorant always fall for it.

(9,841 posts)Obviously, most of them will remain brainwashed, thinking that God is somehow opposed to Claire McCaskill. But if some of them are forced to think about this for just a few minutes, and then look at Ms McCaskill, some of them just might realize it's total bs.

I'm betting Akin does feel "holier than thou"...built up by the insular world of fundie churches where his worldview is shared and he's considered a leader. Akin believes what he said...and he's got pastors and "doctors" who will back him up. To him this is a religious crusade..."saving babies" and thus the need to obsess on the issue, but, again, he's not alone. Remember, there were not only 61 other anti-choice bills pushed in the House in the past 2 years but also hundreds of others on the state level and over 200 Congresscritters voted in favor of the Aiken/Ryan bill. He is no lone wolf or spoke out of school...he is very much preaching to the choir. Akin's problem was he spoke in the wrong place...had he said it at a church he would have gotten a standing ovation.

(31,706 posts)While the two do intersect in some areas (they both hate the colored fella)...the fundies have an insanity all to their own. They want to create a theocracy and their focus is primarily on social. They gladly take the social security and government benefits but still hate the colored fella and the "heathens".
Teabaggers were primarily into economic matters...wanting to never pay taxes and still get all their government services. They really don't care about abortion but they hate Democrats and the colored fella. We saw a bunch of the teabagger groups distance themselves from Aiken yesterday while xtian groups circled the wagons.
The fundie vote trumps the teabaggers in southwest Missouri that could tip the balance in the election and that's who Aiken's "base" is.
