(602 posts)We unshackle ourselves from our brilliant, but crippled by outdated time and circumstances constitution.
The more time passes, the more technology advances that the founding forefathers had no means of anticipating, the more restricted we become and all the less effective at mitigation of threats that do not a knowledge the same laws and conscripts the rest of us do.
We cannot expect to ever gain ground under these circumstances. The constitution needs to be rewritten to reflect the drastically altered society of today while adhering to the core moral principles and guidelines of the original text.
It's the only logical, even sane path forward. This handicap is costing us dearly with each passing day, even hour.
There's got to be another solution. I only say this with the greatest reluctance and fear, but I fear the outcome of not doing so even more.

(901 posts)papers as proof in a court of law to arrest and arraign me?
lunatica
(53,410 posts)Absolutely. You can be arrested but Courts dont get to decide your fate Willy Nilly. Your own testimony is used (in writing) whether to find you innocent or guilty.
Letters and documents can also be proof you didnt do it if thats your plea.

(111,110 posts)They still want to see him:
Nevertheless, when our Committees began discussions with Mr. Cohens attorney, not appearing before Congress was never an option. We will not let the Presidents tactics prevent Congress from fulfilling our constitutionally mandated oversight responsibilities. This will not stop us from getting to the truth. We expect Mr. Cohen to appear before both Committees, and we remain engaged with his counsel about his upcoming appearances.

(51,640 posts)They may have to subpeona him but that is expected with all the committee investigations. Stall, delay and make it go through the courts. That is what they will all do...Kushner, Don Jr, Stone, etc.

(10,275 posts)Congress ordered him to show up. Bush said 'fuck that' and never enforced the subpeona (cause at the Federal level, it's done through the executive branch), and so Rove never said a word in front of Congress.
Or am I 'mis-remembering'?

(46,099 posts)I don't think the Dems will let that happen again. If they try, we all need to get on the phones to their offices.
