(11,652 posts)Venn diagrams are used to depict subsets and intersections. It would be accurate if the labels for the circles were changed to something like "the set of Paul Ryan's beliefs and the set of Todd Akin's beliefs". Then the overlaps would show which elements in the sets were shared. That being said, I believe the graphic is simpler and clearer the way it is presented rather than the mathematically correct way.

ask them one question: "Do you think women who have abortions should be put in jail?"
And they invariably answer "No."
Now how do they think they are going to make abortion illegal if they don't put women who have them in jail? Putting doctors in jail? Women will still have them -- in back alleys.
One woman said, "They should educate them." Problem is, of course, that the person who needs to be educated about abortion is the woman saying it should be illegal but that women who have abortions should be educated not sent to jail.
If something is illegal, the government has to have some way to enforce that illegality. And Americans don't really want to put women in jail because they have abortions. So the abortion should be illegal thing is just a slogan with no possibility of ever becoming a real campaign or political issue.
Americans do not want to make abortion illegal. What they want but don't know how to express is to make sure that women are counseled by their doctor about the pros and cons of abortion, the risks of having an abortion or not having one. In other words, what they want is really good prenatal care for every woman in America.
And that is what the ACA will provide -- eventually if not right away -- provided the Republicans don't get ahold of it.
