In his town hall appearance in New Hampshire this morning, Mitt Romney celebrated the individual, who clearly needs no support system to succeed in RepublicanLand.
Speaking to a crowd of FreedomWorks devotees and other New Hampshire residents, he said this:
"We celebrate and recognize the success of each individual and acknowledge their success. We don't denigrate it, we don't divide Americans based on their level of success. We come together.
The other day, you know, I thought about a kid that works hard to get the honor roll. And she works real hard. I know that to get the honor roll she had to go on a school bus to get to school. But when she makes the honor roll, I credit the kid, not the bus driver!"

(9,933 posts)Without transportation to and from school this honor student would not have been able to excell in class or even take class?

(17,863 posts)low pay, incredible responsibility, and you have your back turned on potentially very disruptive, even dangerous children.
The honor student's bus driver got her to school safely for a year. Yes any rational person would credit the driver's contribution to the child's success. Also don't forget the janitor and the lunch crew.

(9,933 posts)Last year when we were getting gifts for the teacher appreciate day a bunch of us went in together and got some for the janitor and lunch ladies too. We should appreciate all the people who help at our kids school. Wish we had bus service though. Instead it's the drop off routine from hell...

(11,362 posts)... who works just as hard, but doesn't always get to school on time because her parent's car is unreliable, and there is no bus service, never makes the honor roll. I guess that kid "deserves" to be a failure. We're throwing away the potential of far too may disadvantaged children in this country.

Years before my sons' started attending H S some of the students started a song
about this fine man...each year a new group of riders would add different verses to the song.
They didn't sing it every trip but when they did he would smile.
He encouraged my youngest son, though shy, to go out for the school play and stood up
for my oldest son when he was in the wrong place, wrong time and gathered up in the
crowd for misbehaving.
He ran all the way to the principal's office to let him know my son and a few
others were not involved.
He attended every graduation ceremony and dang well knew every rider's name.
What a fine man any student would be proud to include in their road to success.
