Tea Party/GOP: It's Ok To THINK Like Todd Akin, It's Just Not Ok To SPEAK Like Him.
It started with Todd Akin's apology. He effectively said he used the wrong word. He meant to use "forcible" instead of "legitimate". He even said he stands by the spirit of what he said.
And so do the Tea Party and the GOP. While they try to run from Todd Akin's statement, we should, the media should, hold them to the ideology that is so very repulsive to most of America: That you cannot slice and dice the meaning of rape to further limit abortion.
This morning on CNN the Tea Party Express Chairwoman, Amy Kremer, tried to say the Tea Party does not agree with what Akin said. She has called on Akin to step aside so the Tea Party can replace him with an electable candidate. She said the Tea Party is focused on financial and economic issues, not social issues. This is a blatant lie. They want a candidate who supports exactly the same anti-abortion movement that Todd Akin supported. They just don't want that person talking about it.
Here are her words on the issue:
"It is critical that we defeat Senator Claire McCaskill in November, but it will be too difficult to achieve with Todd Akin as the conservative alternative," said Kremer. "He should step down and give conservatives a chance at taking back the Senate in November."
"One of the lessons we learned in 2010 is that we need candidates who are not only conservative, but are capable of putting together a strong campaign against liberal opponents," said Kremer"
Did she say Todd Akin was wrong? No. Did she say his stance on Abortion doesn't align with the Tea Party? No. She said his words were unfortunate. That is, he spoke what he believed out loud and got called on it. As a result he is not electable and they need "candidates who are not only conservative, but are capable of a strong campaign." that is, just like Todd Akin, but *electable*.
If there is any doubt, just look at the Tea Party list of candidates for 2012. Not a single one of them is pro-choice or would support anything less than the legislation sponsored by Akin and Paul Ryan and promoted by the GOP. Oh, that reminds me, let's look at the Official GOP Party Platform on Abortion:

There is absolutely no exception for rape or incest in the official GOP party language..
Essentially, the GOP is adopting the extreme right-wing Christian conservatism that is the Tea Party and are making it their platform.
Yes, I said it. The extreme Christian conservative movement is doing this. They are the only ones continuing to support Akin as the Family Research Council stated their continued backing and support for Akin despite his statements about rape and abortion. And this is probably why Todd Akin is not wanting to back down. He knows that what he said is what every GOP politician supports. He knows what he said is supported by the Tea Party. He knows what he said is supported by the GOP Platform. He also knows that when the dust settles and he's still in the race, that the GOP money will come back. And we know it too.
That is why it is very important for us to spread the word far and wide. That it isn't what Todd Akin believes or stands for that GOP finds offensive. It is that the light of day was brought full force on what the Tea Party/GOP are all about. And when the light of day shines upon them, they appear to be as repulsive as Todd Akin speaking the ugly words he spoke.
