Bernie Sanders set to announce 2020 presidential run

Hunter Walker - White House Correspondent,Yahoo News•January 25, 2019

Excerpt:

Two sources with direct knowledge of his plans told Yahoo News that Sanders, an independent and self-described “democratic socialist,” plans to announce his presidential bid imminently. While Sanders has been mulling a bid for months, one of the sources said he was emboldened by early polls of the race that have consistently showed him as one of the top candidates in a crowded Democratic primary field. In particular, the source said Sanders was heartened to see numbers indicating he is one of the leading candidates among African American and Latino voters, two groups he was perceived as struggling with in 2016.

A third source said Sanders’ bid will begin with an exploratory committee. Sanders’ campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment on this story.

In addition to these two sources, a former Sanders staffer who was not been briefed on the imminent announcement plans nevertheless said they were aware of many recent signs he is set to pull the trigger on a presidential campaign. Specifically, the former staffer said Sanders has been building out the infrastructure he would need for a White House bid.

“He’s already talking to staff and there are people he’s hiring. They’re nailing down contracts with vendors, … all the movement is there for him to run,” the ex-staffer said.

why are you having "women" problems bernie? you don't get my vote doing this ......

~~~~~ >> In February 2016, Giulianna Di Lauro, a Latino outreach strategist for Senator Bernie Sanders’s presidential operation, complained to her supervisor that she had been harassed by a campaign surrogate whom she drove to events ahead of the Democratic primary in Nevada.
She said the surrogate told her she had “beautiful curly hair” and asked if he could touch it, Ms. Di Lauro said in an interview. Thinking he would just touch a strand, she consented. But she said that he ran his hand through her hair in a “sexual way” and continued to grab, touch and “push my boundaries” for the rest of the day.
“I just wanted to be done with it so badly,” she said.
When she reported the incident to Bill Velazquez, a manager on the Latino outreach team, he told her, “I bet you would have liked it if he were younger,” according to her account and another woman who witnessed the exchange. Then he laughed.
Accounts like Ms. Di Lauro’s — describing episodes of sexual harassment and demeaning treatment as well as pay disparity in Mr. Sanders’s 2016 campaign — have circulated in recent weeks in emails, online comments and private discussions among former supporters. Now, as the Vermont senator tries to build support for a second run at the White House, his perceived failure to address this issue has damaged his progressive bona fides, delegates and nearly a dozen former state and national staff members said in interviews over the last month.
That (white populism) was not the only reason behind Sanders' rise, but a core reason, especially when given a binary choice.
Sanders' supporters were overwhelmingly white, and he survived so long due to winning several caucuses in white states.
He got crushed in almost all of the primaries (where there is larger turnout and more diverse) and in almost all metro/diverse areas and states across the country, where Dems get most votes from. He also got crushed in the South where most Democrats are black.
Bernie Sanders Tops the List of 2020 Democratic Contenders in New Poll
Joe Biden and Beto O’Rourke round out the top three in the Democracy for America survey
"WASHINGTON — Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) holds a commanding lead in a new poll of liberal grassroots activists conducted by Democracy for America, the lefty activist group founded by former Vermont governor and 2004 presidential candidate Howard Dean.
In a field of 23 candidates, Sanders claimed 36 percent of the first-place votes by DFA activists, more than double the percentage of former Vice President Joe Biden, who finished in second with 15 percent. Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-TX), who narrowly lost his Senate race against Republican Ted Cruz last month, took third place with 12 percent. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) grabbed fourth with 8 percent and Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) rounded out the top five with seven percent."
I don't usually make firm choices until after the first debates but, at the moment, those are the front runners for me, personally.
But who knows, maybe all the three will have bad debate showings? Or, maybe Biden or Bernie will blow me away at the debates?
But right now, I'm leaning Kamala, Elizabeth, Beto.
He’s not going to be the nominee. When that becomes clear to Bernie and how long he stays in to cause trouble is the real issue.
Making a Goldman Sachs speech diabolical: "It must be a fantastic speech, a brilliant speech which you would want to share with the American people. It must be Shakespearean!"
"We need a campaign -- an election -- coming up which does not have two candidates who are really very, very strongly disliked. I don't wanna see the American people voting for the lesser of two evils. I want the American people to be voting for a vision of economic justice, of environmental justice, of racial justice."
And so much more. These are his words.
One year wasn't enough then and it isn't now.
https://www.nytimes.com/politics/first-draft/2016/04/15/bernie-sanders-releases-his-2014-tax-returns/
Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont released his 2014 federal tax returns on Friday, following weeks of questioning — by his rival, Hillary Clinton, and the media — and promises that he would do so.
The couple’s income — $205,617 in 2014 — includes $156,441 in wages and salary and $46,213 from Social Security benefits, although some of those benefits are not taxable, according to seven pages of tax returns released by the Sanders campaign. The returns, which were prepared by Mr. Sanders’s wife, Jane, also show that the couple gave $8,350 as gifts to charity and paid $27,653 in federal income taxes.
For weeks, Mr. Sanders had said he would release his tax returns, saying he had not done so previously because Ms. Sanders does the couple’s taxes but she had been campaigning alongside him for months.
Gin up misplaced anger among his followers against the Democratic party and the eventual nominee. Which will likely result in many not showing up to vote or not enthusiastic about our nominee.
Yes, thats dangerous given that it might result in 4 more years of Trump hell.
I would say his followers start out disappointed / uninspired by the Democratic Party but after a year of Bernie's attacks during the primary they will end up hating the Party.
Case in point 2016 convention many booed a Dem legend John Lewis. We do not need anything like that in 2020.
Sanders' purpose isn't to promote ideas as much as it is to sow discord in the democratic party. He's another kremlin asset. He had a weekly gig on RT last time, for christ's sake. Hey Bernie, we're all still waiting for those tax returns you promised.
- his votes against Russia sanctions, (including his recent missed vote),
- his pro-gun votes,
- flat-leaving the Democratic party after admittedly exploiting its structure and resources,
He’s too damn old. Don’t these people ever want to retire?
Is he going to run as a democrat. Again?
Love how he jumps in and out of the party as it suits him.
And I voted for him in the Michigan primary but I think if he had conceded, like Hillary did to Obama in 2008 and thrown his support to Hillary earlier instead of hanging around with hints of a brokered convention, more of his supporters might have gone with Hillary. He was a sore looser.
Just stay a senator, he’s needed in that position at least until he retires, if he ever does.
