Brian Williams shows breathtaking live ATC traffic map: 11:57 p.m. 1/25/19

I can't imagine the stress those awesome people work under in a normal day, much less working without knowing if they're going to be homeless or if they will be able to feed their families.

.. in a non ATC capacity (troubleshooting systems and making sure they continue to function). I love him to death, but there is no way in hell that, unless I was at the point of a gun, and maybe not even then, that I would get on an airplane anytime in the next 6 months. The stories he has told me of shortstaffing, overworked controllers, TSA issues, and all the other fallout from the shutdown, would curl your hair. I'll take my chances on our interstate highway system.

Appropriate. Incredible there's been no disaster yet. Kudos to these dedicated professionals!

ended the shutdown imo. Certainly the suffering should have had that effect, and it was all ego-driven bullshit from the start, but the looming prospect of an aviation shutdown and/or disaster is what FINALLY got through to rump.

I'd say his poll numbers but am not certain he can actually read.

In dark rooms "pushing tin" making sure the awesome responsibility of keeping a giant puzzle of aircraft soaring through skies at incredible speeds from colliding one another.

Keeping giant ungainly spread winged vehicles from incursions when on the busy tarmac. These men and women are the best.

That’s one of the toughest jobs there is - SO much tension and stress. They’re totally responsible for all those innocent lives in those airborne metal tubes. Every minute of every shift of every day.

Consider what happened on 9/11:

They had to suspend all civilian air traffic and land all the civilian planes in the air. Immediately. There was no plan, no drill, no experience, no checklist, nothing. And they did it in a couple of hours, so smoothly it looked like they HAD a plan and drilled for it regularly.
