Did Trump permanently damage Republican chances in the next election?

Trump had bragged that he could shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and not lose any support. I guess he thought he could take the jobs of 800,000 Federal workers, and affect the lives of millions of other Americans, and they would still love him?

It appears that is not the case.

Republicans are very wary of their re-election chances and do not wish to go thru this again, as Trump has threatened to do in three weeks, if he does not get his wall.

Nobody knows how much damage has been done to the GOP with this shutdown "shakedown"? But it is very doubtful that they want to take another bite of that apple.
