Trump's wall fight is really about his waning political dominance in Washington.

I've been pondering why dump decided to wait until the Democrats were in charge of one of the houses of congress to take a stand on his wall. He's obviously pushed for the wall before, but he was never willing to go to war and shut the government down for it in the past. He waited for that until he had less chance of actually getting funding, which seems paradoxical.

The reason the fight happened now is because it is really about dump's control of Washington. He feels threatened with a new Democratic majority in the house, and he wanted to set the tone for the next two years by showing them that he is boss. He picked the wall, which was his most iconic campaign promise and probably one of the least palatable ideas to Democrats, and he tried to force them into funding it. If he had pulled it off, he would have showed that he is still the boss of Washington, and that he can make the new majority bend over and kiss his ring if he wants to. Nancy Pelosi was exactly right when she said (paraphrasing) that she can't afford to cave on this issue, because if she does dump will use the same tactic over and over again.

We should all be very happy about the way this is shaking out, because Pelosi and her colleagues have just shown dump that they don't have to kowtow to his bullshit. The fight is ending with dump getting egg on his face, and inadvertently showing the country that he isn't invincible, and he isn't above dealing with congress. I'm sure he will try his national emergency shenanigans, but he is going to end up looking like an even bigger fool. I think we are going to look back at this fight and see it as the point where the tide turned on dump.
