(14,764 posts)Is the Russians didnt just hack the dnc, they also hacked the rnc and probably a lot of individual email accounts of gop pols.
We don't hear about that because wikileaks didnt release them. But there were news reports of an rnc attack around the same time.
Those emails could be devastating to politicians on the right. Politicians often say things privately that would upset their base. These morans probably carried on affairs to boot. Remember, these are the guys that think Google makes iPhones.
They are all in the barrel, and everything in it is rotten to the core.

(4,079 posts)You're right that they probably have kompromat on all of them. Also, there was a list published recently on how much money several repubs had received from the russians (filtered through a cousin, and PACs and such) and Moscow Mitch was at the top of the list with about $800,000. He's in to Putin deep, and Putin knows his deepest darkest secret.

(4,079 posts)It was russian money, but it was laundered though the business of the cousin of an oligarch (or something like that), and then deposited with turtle's PAC.

The very creation of legal dominance of standing in the courts by fictional personhoods can be proved, over time, to be an ongoing harm to the real We The People. The right case has yet to be argued.

(20,692 posts)Editor's note May 8, 2018: This column originally published December 15, 2017. New allegations about $500k in payments from a Russian oligarch made to Trump attorney Michael Cohen have placed it back in the news.
As Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team probes deeper into potential collusion between Trump officials and representatives of the Russian government, investigators are taking a closer look at political contributions made by U.S. citizens with close ties to Russia.
Buried in the campaign finance reports available to the public are some troubling connections between a group of wealthy donors with ties to Russia and their political contributions to President Donald Trump and a number of top Republican leaders. And thanks to changes in campaign finance laws, the political contributions are legal. We have allowed our campaign finance laws to become a strategic threat to our country.
In 2015-16, everything changed. Blavatnik's political contributions soared and made a hard right turn as he pumped $6.35 million into GOP political action committees, with millions of dollars going to top Republican leaders including Sens. Mitch McConnell, Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham.

(4,690 posts)The statement in the Dallas News seems pretty black & white but the following appears on the Federal Election Commission website. It's an important distinction and it would be good to have a definitive answer.
Foreign nationals
Campaigns may not solicit or accept contributions from foreign nationals. Federal law prohibits contributions, donations, expenditures and disbursements solicited, directed, received or made directly or indirectly by or from foreign nationals in connection with any election federal, state or local. This prohibition includes contributions or donations made to political committees and building funds and to make electioneering communications. Furthermore, it is a violation of federal law to knowingly provide substantial assistance in the making, acceptance or receipt of contributions or donations in connection with federal and nonfederal elections to a political committee, or for the purchase or construction of an office building. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, acting as a conduit or intermediary for foreign national contributions and donations.

Besides signing bills, Mitch, Congress can also override presidential vetoes too.

(527 posts)That is exactly what it is for. An override is there to enact a law that makes sense. It is there to overrule a president who is not looking out for the needs of the country. Use it.

(82,849 posts)And then an aide (not the Majority Leader himself, note) comes out to misstate the Constitution. Bills can become law without a presidential signature, dude. It's called a veto override, and is very embarrassing to the executive who doesn't know how to count votes.

(70,710 posts)The Congress is supposed to be a co-equal branch, meaning having its own independent sphere. NOT bringing only the bills the executive approves of. If something gets vetoed, it can be overridden. TURTLE really is undermining the government and instituting dictatorship.

3. Continued pointing to the workings of McTurtle, keeping his shell covered in continuing support of the illegitimate president and the theft of the Supreme Court and White House, which has been his #1 goal for years.

(9,670 posts)This avalanche of evidence of Russian involvement surely points to at least the possibility that Congress was also compromised. McConnell's actions, viewed through that lens, are beyond suspicious. Some in the media are finally reviewing Trump's words, deeds and policies in light of potential Russian acquiescence. Why not Congress? Why not Mitch? What over-the-top demonstration of a Russian alliance will it take to wake up the press?

Mr. Ected
(9,670 posts)When corporate masters dictate content, when lies may be reported as truth without consequence, when the line between news and entertainment is so blurred as to be indistinguishable, the profit motive has kneecapped the freedom of the press. Profit has no place in basic human rights (health care, shelter, sustenance) and certainly diminishes the effectiveness of a free press.

(3,433 posts)The entire purpose of this procedure is to function as a check against the president so that he cannot enforce his will over that of the people. Buy fully aligned with the president McConnell has effectively abandoned separation of powers.
So while McConnell can preach about how a bill becomes a law law and cite the Constitution as an excuse for his inaction, he ought to be held to account for his abandoning of his oath

(129,096 posts)Yet Turtle refused to carry out the process AT ALL, i.e., bringing bills from the House into a committee for discussion/revision and/or onto the floor for consideration/debate/vote regardless of what the President thinks.
Congress is NOT the "Executive Branch". If a bill passes both chambers it goes to the President to either sign (or affirm without signature after 10 days) OR veto.
