And they regularly described other blacks as the "N-word."
I hear about this a lot, among blacks.
And I just read this article:

I'd like to, but I won't, (naturally) call him a "House ______."
And Massie over-qualifies for that title.
The term was used to hilarious effect in "Blazing Saddles" and a couple other movies.
So is the term nowadays more an indication of a person's words and actions?

the term is offensive.

It's just the fact that WND is using Massie, as "Obama's own kind" to attack him and his family so viciously.

I still think of that if I ever hear anyone use that word. Luckily, I live and associate with people who
were raised up like me.

I wasn't around the "KKK" types, they were more the "Keep them out of OUR neighborhoods" types.

Different era. Different times I suppose.
He was my introduction to black culture. Valid or not.
Not until I joined the Navy did I regularly interact with black folks.
Made some good friends, enjoyed some fun, memorable times, and remain in touch. to this day.
Proud to say I will vote for President Obama twice.

(9,748 posts)... a bunch of old white men I know. They use that word so often, I have come to associate the word with them.
I must admit that I actually have used that word in anger. Some old white guy was going on about how bad Blacks were, and I called him that. It just popped out. He was very much taken aback.
I was surprised myself. But when he asked me why I would call him that, I didn't have to search for the answer. I recognized immediately why I would associate him and his buddies with that word. I assured him that when I think of that word, his face is usually the first to pop into my mind.
People laughed. He got angry. Another person said, "you know, now that you mention it, he is what probably comes to my mind most times I hear that word nowadays."
He got embarassed and shutup for the evening. But was back to hating within a week or so.
